According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, coveted free agent defenseman Matt Gilroy has signed with the New York Rangers.
Gilroy, the most recent winner of the Hobey Baker award, led Boston University to the Frozen Four National Championship just last weekend.
Brooks notes that a dozen teams were in on the sweepstakes until the end—teams that included the Devils, Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs. It is believed the deal will be a two-year deal, worth somewhere in the ball park of $3-4 million.
Gilroy is not eligible to play for the Rangers this season and is currently finishing up exams at BU. There is a chance he may join the AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack once his schooling is completed.
