Complete Broadcast Information for the Malaysia Grand Prix
Last week kicked off the 2013 Formula One season with the Australian Grand Prix won by Kimi Raikkonen for the Renault-powered Lotus F1 Team. So it is on to the Malaysia Grand Prix, and NBC Sports Network has a doubleheader of open-wheel racing this week.
First up, at 3:30 a.m.EDT on NBCSN is live coverage of the Malaysia Grand Prix starting with the pre-race show, and at 4 a.m., the race action starts. There has been a slight change in the broadcast crew on the Formula One team.
Bob Varsha will fill in for Leigh Diffey, who is calling the IndyCar opener in St. Petersburg, and he will return to his Formula One duties for the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday, April 14. So Varsha will serve as lead announcer for this week’s Formula One race. Sharing the booth with Varsha will be legendary race car driver David Hobbs and analyst Steve Matchett, a former race mechanic for the Benetton F1 team, including two years with seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher. Will Buxton, F1 insider and former journalist, will serve as the team’s on-site reporter from Malaysia.
After the conclusion of the Malaysia Grand Prix, NBCSN will air F1 Extra, the network's post-race program. Starting at 11 a.m., there will be more open-wheel racing as things shift to the IndyCar series with coverage of their season opener, the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. At 3 p.m., there will be a re-airing of the Malaysia Grand Prix, should you choose not to get up early Sunday morning.
