With just eight games to go in the 2012-2013 Premier League season, transfer rumors for the upcoming summer window have already started, and following some encouraging business done in January, Liverpool fans are looking forward to more exciting transfers to come in the summer.

There have been some impressive names linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks, with Kopites hoping that Brendan Rodgers builds on a solid January record and an improving team shape by bringing in players that can flourish in his passing-oriented attacking system.

But out of every batch of transfer rumors there are bound to be some players that fans just aren’t too excited about, or even don’t want to arrive at the club at all.

Here are four players who have been linked to Liverpool, but whom Reds fans would rather not see arrive in the summer. Do let us know if you disagree.

Diego Capel

One of the most recent names to be linked with Liverpool is Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel, previously of Sevilla in Spain (via the Express).

Before his move to Portugal, Capel was rated as one of the most promising young wingers in Spain, so what’s gone wrong?

Bleacher Report's Karl Matchett has a list of detailed reasons as to why the Reds shouldn’t sign Capel, but in summary: Besides not possessing the right characteristics to star on the wing, Liverpool are currently stacked with attacking midfield options, and most importantly, Capel just hasn’t really excited many onlookers during his stint with Sporting.

Jeremy Menez

Another rumored Liverpool target is Paris Saint-Germain winger Jeremy Menez, who has found himself further down the pecking order at PSG following Lucas Moura’s arrival at the Ligue 1 leaders (Sky Sports).

Just like Capel, Menez was rated a hot prospect before his move to AS Roma and then to PSG, but he hasn’t hit the heights his early years seemed to promise.

He has had to refute reports that he refused to come on as a substitute in a January league game against Ajaccio, but at the same time acknowledged the need to mature as a player (Goal.com).

Regardless, a hardworking exciting youngster in Philippe Coutinho has already been hitting the headlines for the right reasons since his January arrival. Liverpool fans will be looking past Menez towards other targets.

Tom Ince

Just a few months ago, Liverpool fans looked forward to Brendan Rodgers bringing back a former Liverpool youth academy graduate in Blackpool’s Tom Ince.

Alas, the Reds failed to agree a transfer fee with Ince’s current club, and while they are rumored to be interested in returning for Ince in the summer (Daily Mail), perhaps they don’t need to anymore.

Since January, when Liverpool’s attack was impressively augmented by Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho, the Reds defence has emerged as the position most in need of strengthening. So, when trickery and pace on the flanks is already being provided by Coutinho and will be for the coming years by Raheem Sterling, where would Tom Ince play?

Safe to say that, for now, Kopites would rather see their transfer warchest spent on other areas of the pitch.

Ashley Williams

So now we arrive at the problem position, and, in the minds of many Liverpool fans, a problem target.

Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams has been linked with the Reds for a while, and rumors of a summer move seem to be gathering pace in media circles (Liverpool Echo).

Williams did make the headlines for the wrong reasons with his quite public denouncements of Kop favorite Luis Suarez (Daily Mirror).

But in the fans’ eyes, an impressive season marshaling the Swansea defence isn’t enough, perhaps seeing that Joe Allen’s good form last season alongside Leon Britton hasn’t continued at Anfield. Or perhaps it is that Williams simply isn’t the big-name signing that they want to see Rodgers make; Schalke 04’s Benedikt Howedes (CaughtOffside) seems to be the high-profile defender on many a fan’s wishlist.

But as all football fans know, ultimately it is the manager—or the board—who run the rule over signings, so they could yet see Williams in a Red shirt come September.
