Surprise MLB Teams That Will Battle for Playoff Spots in 2013

Anyone who says there’s no parity in Major League Baseball clearly wasn’t paying attention last year.

The Washington Nationals won a league-best 98 games and made the playoffs for the first time since 1981 when they were still the Montreal Expos. Elsewhere in the Beltway region, the Baltimore Orioles came out of nowhere to win 93 games and make the playoffs for the first time since 1997. Out west, the Oakland A’s won 94 games and snatched the AL West from the two-time defending AL champion Texas Rangers on the last day of the season.

Surprises! They happened last year in MLB, and they’ll happen again in 2013. Rest assured, teams that aren’t expected to contend for playoff spots will contend for playoff spots.

And B/R Pop Culture Lead Writer Gabe Zaldivar and I believe we know who they are. We shared our picks for surprise contenders that will arise in 2013, and our ramblings were caught on video.
