Bleacher Report caught up with Blues manager Rafa Benitez to get his thoughts after the game, while we also spoke exclusively with David Luiz.
Similar to their FA Cup clash with Manchester United at the weekend, it took an excellent second-half display to ensure the Blues overcame their opponents at Stamford Bridge.
Juan Mata gave Chelsea the lead midway through the first half with a well-taken strike after some good build-up play. It levelled the scores at 1-1 on aggregate after Steaua's victory in the first leg, but the visitors were soon back in control of the tie when Vlad Chiriches equalized on the stroke of half time.
With the score 1-1 on the night, 2-1 on aggregate to Steaua, it meant Chelsea needed to win the match by two clear goals to avoid being eliminated on the away goals rule.
Nonetheless, captain John Terry scored with a header after the interval and Fernando Torres completed the victory with a well-taken third.
The Spaniard had a penalty claim denied by the referee, but Eden Hazard was adjudged to have been fouled late on in the penalty box. Torres, boosted by his earlier strike, stepped up to grab his second, but struck the bar with the goalkeeper well beaten.
It had little significance on the game, though, as the Blues marched on in Europe.
