The New York Yankees are seen as America's team.

But that's all over now. The franchise needs to learn that money can't buy wins, especially if there is not a smart man spending the money. And Steinbrenner just isn't that guy.

"Welcome to famous Fenway Park." That's the sign that the Yankees read when they lose to the Boston Red Sox, who have beaten their New York rivals the past few years.

But now the Yankees will be losing in all stadiums. It's just a matter of time before people realize that the organization that everyone wished to play for or root for is no longer what it used to be.

No one can deny that the Yankees do have potential.

But they organization just let go one of the best managers of all time, Joe Torre.

Yes, New York has a good batting line-up, but the team always believed in hitting first and pitching second. But now the pitching staff caught up to this philosophy and is not deep enough. So winning ends there.

For example, the Boston Red Sox have great hitters such as David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. Without great pitching, New York will not retire these two very much.

And in very un-Yankee-like fashion, the team made no significant transactions in the off season. It missed on the opportunity to get Johan Santana, and Roger Clemens was not the kind of pitcher they signed up for.

But the biggest reason that New York will not live up to its former glory is Boston.

The New York Yankees, is that they are in the same division as the Boston Red Sox, their hated rivals. But as of late, it has been one-sided, Boston consistently getting the best of the pinstripes.

The Red Sox were not playing around last season when they won the World Series. And their roster only improved as the Sox signed Japanese star Dice-K and found diamonds-in-the-rough Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellisbury.

And Boston made another famous playoff comeback to win the series against the Indians, the team who beat the Yankees, after going down down 3-1.

But the Yankees have a knack of staying in the playoff race until the very end.

We'll have to wait and see what happens.

  1. One problem, the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry hasn't been one sided. If you dont remember, we won the season record againts them. Roger Clemens was a big catch, maybe not for his pitching ability, but fr something we needed more. He brought back the morale that the Yankees needed to come back from that giant hole last year and they did.

  2. Hasn't been one-sided whatsoever. One playoff win doesn't mean much when you still lose the season series.

I wouldn't stretch Torre leaving to your extent. The Yankees made him. He's considered one of the best because of the teams he inherited. His track record before the Yanks isn't too hot.

You sort of contradict yourself after talking about them embracing a new pitching philosophy while criticizing them for not grabbing Johan. It's a pick one or the other situation.
