Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of players for summer signings since the closure of the winter transfer window, some of which have generated more excitement in the fanbase than others.
Of course, it is unlikely that too many of those seemingly exciting players will eventually join the club, but while the team continues to progress on the pitch and needs further additions to the squad, the supporters can certainly dream.
The fabled missing piece of the jigsaw, the defender to replace a retiring legend or the extra piece of quality in the final third; all are capable of getting fans excited and looking forward to the summer—if the name is right.
Here are the most exciting names brought up thus far.
When fans are asked who they hope the Reds sign this summer, Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen's name pops up most frequently.
The attacking playmaker has shown his quality over the past three seasons for Ajax, but with only one year left on his contract, he might now be ready to make the move elsewhere.
Liverpool have been linked for quite some time with a move for Eriksen (via Express), but it remains to be seen if they follow up their interest with a firm offer, or if they can tempt him to Anfield ahead of other interested sides.
The Liverpool-Xabi Alonso love affair started back in 2004, and though he departed Anfield some time ago, he continues to be adored the Kop—and the affection is mutual.
Even so, anytime his name is linked with the club, it is hard to stop a number of supporters from remembering the strength and quality of Liverpool's midfield the last time the Basque midfielder graced the centre of the pitch at Anfield.
While Liverpool are likely to focus most of their time and resources on defensive additions this summer, there is still a distinct possibility of another wide forward being added to their ranks, especially one who can operate from the right.
Hatem Ben Arfa has been linked with the Reds (via Express) over the past few weeks as one possible signing.
The French winger has struggled with injury at times this season but has also shown flashes of immense ability, especially in a one-on-one situation.
He can be a real crowd-pleaser when on his best form, and is certainly a goal threat.
Gameiro is a talented striker with an eye for goal, always something to get the fans excited, while whoever the Reds sign to replace Jamie Carragher will be under immense pressure and scrutiny.
Bringing in the PSG pairing would be a sign of intent from Liverpool, with the Ligue 1 outfit pushing hard for the league title and in the Champions League quarterfinals, but it could also see them snare two quality players for a reasonable fee, with neither being first-choice when all players are fit.
Even so, they seem to be fanbase-approved targets.
At least, until the next rumour places a bigger name at the top of Liverpool's apparent wishlist.
