I have two questions for you:
1) Did you know that Derrick Caracter declared for the NBA Draft?
2) Do you even know who Derrick Caracter is?
Derrick Caracter, in short, is a lazy, fat, slow, mildly athletic, 6’6” sophomore forward. He played 16 minutes a game for Louisville this season.
Sixteen minutes. That’s it.
If you haven’t seen him play—well, you’re in the majority, because not many people have. Let me break down his “game” for you.
Basically he can score on the low block when matched up with someone much smaller than he is. His athleticism is about a four out of 10—the only way he can dunk the ball is if nobody’s around.
And, let’s be honest here: the same goes for me, and I’m only six feet tall.
If you haven’t seen Caracter shoot a free throw, let me describe it.
Imagine, if you will, watching a three-legged dog in its final days, struggling to muster the energy and balance to pinch one off on your freshly cleaned white carpet. Caracter’s free throws give you that same uneasy feeling.
And, not only is his game weaker than a McDonald’s attempt to market towards African-Americans, but there are also numerous red flags about his work ethic and off-the-court demeanor.
Yet this guy thinks enough of himself to declare for the NBA Draft.
That’s quite an ego you got there, Mr. Caracter. We’ll be on the edge of our seats for your D-League debut.

He and Leo Lyons will one day make a deadly 1-2 punch for the NBDL's Austin Toros.

I'm sure there are more to come, and somebody will be worse than Caracter.

Caracter is 6'8", not 6'6".

And your embarrasingly-small cock is 0.7 inches long, not 1.1 inches. Go back to the fuckin' fag store, cunt.

Why you have to go and play the race card?

I just think it's funny how McDonald's makes those commercials to try to relate to African-Americans... and the language they use is so played-out and seems obviously to have been written by white people
I'm not playin the race card at all man

Sounds like he'll fit perfectly in the NBA.
Why would you rip on someone who will probably end up making millions of dollars. Don't be jealous because he'll pull down more then you.

That's the problem with NBA. Unless you're Lebron or Kobe - don't try to go to the NBA until you've had at least 3 years of college basketball experience, and only then if you've had two solid years.
Some guys jump and have phenomenal careers, while others, such as Caracter, will probably end up playing in some European league. Oh, no, wait...International leagues actually have pretty decent athletes. He will find himself in the NBDL.
I wish him all the best, but Jux you're right, if 75% or more of those who actually follow college basketball can't even recognize the name at first glance, chances are he's not ready to go up against the likes of Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Ben Wallace. (He's probably not even ready to up against Mark Madsen.)

Two years ago, nobody knew who Daniel Gibson was. Now he's one of the NBA's best and most famous 3-point shooters.
Gibson declared in his Sophomore year at Texas because he knew that there were a handful of teams who had their eye on him. Perhaps this Caracter guy is in a similar situation.
Some guys declare for the draft just to test the waters. As long as they don't hire an agent, they can still return to school if they don't get drafted.

Gibson was a fuckin' stud in college. Everyone knew who he was. Except dickless morons like you.

To be honest, Caracter may not have much of a choice because he IS one. He has been in and out of trouble at U of L since day one and I think Pitino's had enough. He could probably transfer to another school but I think he's had enough of having to skip class and wants to get paid to skip practice instead.

is it just me, or are there a bunch of 12 year old trolls on this post?
nah, probably i'm the only one.

You do not know jack about Caracter or Bball. He is 6'8 . He has a decent shot. He is actually pretty quick for a guy his size and he can score. The only thing your right about is he is not ready for the NBA. He needs work on his D.

Jux you're a freakin idiot, just because you have a keyboard and took a high school English class doesn't make you a columnist yet here you are passing judgment on a kid you obviously have no clue about. Is Caracter ready for the NBA? No, he isn't and I don't think that anyone who has watched him play this season would make the claim that he is. Caracter does posses tremendous amount of talent which he displayed in his limited minutes against some of the best big men in the country in the Big East conference. It's funny how you've attempted to skew the facts about DC in order to make your point as many have already pointed out he is 6'8, at 265lb he is no where near fat, for a man his size he has great agility around the rim, and his minutes were in reality 16.9 minutes per game perhaps a small point but one that further points out what hack of a writer you are by the fact you minimalized his contribution and the harped on it. Caracter biggest problem is that he is immature but at 19 years of age I know very few people who can claim maturity and add to that he has been told since the 8th grade he is the next greatest thing to hit the world basketball and it's understandable he still has some growing up to do. DC maturity level is however still only part of the reason why he is an early entrant into the NBA draft perhaps you should attempt to do a little research the next time you sit down to pass judgment on a subject which you know nothing of.

Seriously -- the kid has 10 percent body fat and is quite athletic. His b-ball IQ is a whole other matter -- he's not ready for the NBA, but your post just makes it clear that you, too, have not seen him play.

thats pretty ridiculous.are you even a real reporter or did you just make this up because you had nothing better to do with your life.in case you forgot louisville was in the elite 8.so im pretty sure many people saw him play, considering he did play a good amount, especially in the Tenn. game.he is 6'8 and if you think he only plays against smaller guys check out how he handled roy hibbert and Hasheem Thabeet.im pretty sure if NBA teams will draft Hakeem Noah who doesnt have the best attitude in the world, nor skill, someone will draft caracter. and if you think you can say anything because you know nothing about him thats fine.but how bout you guys play one on one and see if he cant dunk on you, balls in your face and all.

Jux,
If you're going to jump on the "Caracter is a lazy, underachieving, self-centered, future NDBL player" bandwagon, at least be accurate. His height and his playing time are matters of public record, so why the innacuracies there?
And your description of his basketball ability is way off. His problem has never been his talent/ability on the court. His problem has been his lack of maturity and his choices made off of the court.
He is a very public example of a man of great talent, and potential, who is in freefall mode not noticing all of the wonderful opportunities passing him by. If anything, it's sad, and not something to make a punch line out of. Anyone could do that. Try writing something of substance about the man and his self-destructive plight, and not simply a mindless cheapshot that has already been done 1000 times.

LOL, "his height is a matter of public record" - did you go down to the fuckin statehouse and ask what his height was? Is that part of the Freedom of Information Act, fucktard? You know that a player's listed height is not always accurate, don't you? Charles Barkley was listed at what, 6'6" or 6'7" throughout his career when he was really about 6'4" and a half?

Dear Derrick,
Please leave. You've brought NOTHING but bullshit to this team. Pitino should be worrying about making an amazing team, not wiping your sorry ass.
For all of you who defend his age, size, ability...there are thousands of others out there who will never get the breaks this "kid" has received, and he's BLOWN IT time and time again. Stop making excuses for a complete loser.
Enjoy the rest of your life, you fucking slacker.
