Real Madrid will play host to relegation-zoned Mallorca Saturday in hopes of extending their lead over Atletico Madrid. With the Madrid-based club in scintillating form, Mallorca could be walking into battle they are not ready for.

Mallorca has struggled mightily this season, which has seen the club drop to relegation zone for quite some time. But recent results have given fans hope and a win over Madrid would momentarily lift the club out of the bottom three.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, have been nearly unstoppable as of late.

After finally overtaking their city rivals to rise to the second spot in the table, Los Blancos will be sure to not let points slip away easily.

Normally, a meeting between these two clubs would not offer much excitement—especially after Madrid thrashed their opponents 5-0 in the first meeting of the season. But with Mallorca playing desperate football lately, things could get interesting.

Current Form

Real Madrid will enter the Santiago Bernabeu riding an eight-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. But the capital club has also yet to lose a match at home this season, which could spell disaster for their opponents.

But Los Blancos have not only enjoyed team success lately, every player has been stepping up as well.

Cristiano Ronaldo has easily been the most dominant player in La Liga over the last few weeks. Fans should expect the winger to score at least one goal against a very weak Mallorca defense.

Raphael Varane and Mesut Ozil have also been in terrific form as of late and will prove very important in Saturday’s match.

For Mallorca, the last few weeks have been very exciting. Riding a two-match winning streak, fans have reason to be optimistic going forward.

Giovani Dos Santos has led the charge for Los Bermellones in recent matches, including setting up key assists in Mallorca’s victory against Granada two weeks ago. With the Mexican midfielder pulling the strings, Mallorca has the potential to be a dangerous side.

Tomer Hemed and Alfaro have been the most dangerous performers for Mallorca this season and have accounted for all four goals the club has scored during its winning streak.

The Mallorca defense still remains the weakest area, however, which could lead to many goals for Real Madrid. But if Los Blancos are not able to exploit the struggling defense, Mallorca could steal points.

Team News

After resting a few key stars in their last La Liga match, Real Madrid will likely field a very strong lineup at the Bernabeu. But Jose Mourinho will have to make a tough decision of replacing the injured Angel Di Maria.

Jose Callejon or Kaka could start in the place of their injured teammate, but it is unlikely that his absence will hurt the attack very much. Marcelo could also make the first-choice XI after impressing in his most recent match against Celta.

Mallorca will look to start their best possible lineup against Madrid with hopes of pulling off an upset. With their most important players healthy and in form, fans could be in for a treat.

On paper, it is clear that Real Madrid is on a completely different level than Mallorca. And while stranger things have happened, do not expect Mourinho’s men to falter at home.

Cristiano Ronaldo and company should make quick work of Mallorca’s backline, but do not be surprised if Giovani Dos Santos can help his side at least score a consolation goal.

With Atletico itching to take back the second spot in the La Liga table, Real Madrid will not let Mallorca stand in their way.

Final prediction Real Madrid 4-0 Mallorca.
