Southampton vs. Liverpool: Complete Premier League Preview

Southampton hosts Liverpool on Saturday in what should be an intriguing Premier League encounter.

The last time these teams met, it was Liverpool who ran out 1-0 winners at Anfield. Daniel Agger was the scorer for the home team.

Both sides will be looking to secure a valuable three points heading into the business end of the season. Southampton will be looking to stay out of the relegation zone as the race for survival heats up. Liverpool will be looking to continue their climb up the table and achieve a European position.


Southampton Team News

Southampton has been on a poor run of form in the Premier League recently.

The Saints have a record of 1-2-2 in their last five games. This game is one of five remaining home games for the Saints, so a positive result is a must.

Mauricio Pochettino will have virtually his full squad to choose from including the key man for the tie.


Key Player

Rickie Lambert leads the scoring charts for Southampton in the Premier League with 12 goals to his name.

He’s scored two goals in his last five games but cannot fail to fire against a defense that has let in four goals in their last five games. All those goals came from big-hitters Tottenham and Manchester City.

The Reds' good form has seen them climb up the table in recent rounds.

Liverpool is 3-1-1 in their last five games. This game is one of five remaining away games for the Reds as the season draws to a close.

Brendan Rodgers still has few players out but will still be able to field what is likely his strongest side. 


Key Player

Luis Suarez is having his best season yet for Liverpool and will be key for them in this game. The goals have been flowing lately for the Uruguayan, as he as seven goals in his last five games in all competitions.
