Talking to Cayleb Jones’ ex-girlfriend is allegedly very, very bad for your health.

The Texas sophomore wide receiver was charged with felony assault Tuesday after fracturing the jaw (via Associated Press, h/t USA Today) of Longhorns tennis player Joey Swaysland at a downtown nightclub.

Jones allegedly confronted Swaysland over his relationship with Longhorn women's volleyball player Katherine Bell. Jones and Bell had dated previously, Bell told police, but their relationship had ended badly.

According to Bell, Jones had threatened to fight Swaysland prior to the attack and had told her he didn’t want to see her talking to any other men.

After the incident, Jones and Bell both confided in Texas strength coach Bennie Wylie, who advised Jones to speak with his family and hire an attorney. Wylie gave a sworn statement to police, telling authorities that Jones had confessed to hitting Swaysland to him.

Longhorn football coach Mack Brown has suspended Jones from the team until the case is sorted out, and the sophomore currently faces up to 20 years in prison for the attack.

Jones had only caught two passes during the 2012 season for the Longhorns, but the former high school All-American was expected to develop into a dynamic threat for the program’s offense next season.
