The Colorado Mammoth have acquired former NLL MVP Casey Powell from the Rochester Knighthawks in exchange for defenseman Jon Sullivan and a third-round pick in 2014.

In his first season with the Knighthawks, it was hoped that Powell would give the defending champions an extra boost offensively and put them in a position to repeat as Champion's Cup winners.

Instead, the 2010 league MVP has had a mediocre season, producing just 22 points in seven games, fourth best for a Rochester team that currently sits in last place in the East Division with a 4-5 record and which has scored the second fewest goals in the NLL.

Powell moves to another team that is struggling, but has high hopes of finishing the season strong.

The Mammoth are tied for the worst record in the league at 3-7 and have also struggled at times to put the ball in the net, having the fourth fewest goals in the league.

Powell joins a squad that scored the most goals in the league in 2012 behind an MVP year from John Grant Jr. and a Rookie of the Year performance from Adam Jones. With the addition of a veteran presence like Powell, the expectation is that he can spark the offense back to those 2012 levels.

Sullivan, meanwhile, should improve an already solid defensive corps for the Knighthawks. He has collected 31 loose balls this year and was named Minnesota Swarm Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 before moving to Colorado.

Moving Powell will also open up more floor time for promising sophomore rightie Stephen Keogh who scored 23 goals and 32 assists as a rookie which could boost the offense.
