A Day in the Draft: Gerald Henderson
Gerald Henderson has yet to make his decision known as to whether he will return to Duke for his senior year or declare for the NBA draft. If he were to enter the draft, it is believed that he will be chosen as a lottery pick.
I don't think he's going to be able to walk away from the college game just yet.
Henderson is a player with many great attributes, one of which cannot be denied: heart. This guy plays with a huge amount of heart—and that's one of the reasons I don't see him leaving Duke before experiencing his senior year.
He seems like a hot shot who loves nothing more than being a hot shot. 2009 will be Henderson's year at Duke.
Also, if he stays in school one more year, all things will come together for Duke. I predict a Final Four appearance, if not more. Could Henderson walk away without a championship ring? I don't think so.
If he did, he is capable of competing at the professional level.
At 6'4" and 215 lbs. with long arms, he makes for a nice-sized shooting guard. He has good body control, shows great intelligence on the court, and has potential to become a dynamite defender with his quick hands and feet.
However, Henderson's main weakness is his inability to drive to his left. Very rarely does he go to the left, which makes him predictable and therefore too easy to block.
If he's going to be taken seriously, this is one thing he would need to improve on before entering the NBA.
His father, Gerald Henderson Sr., played 13 years in the NBA. This leads me to believe that Henderson would not enter the draft until more polished, as the elder Henderson has already experienced what it takes firsthand.
