Cubs Lose Home Opener to Brewers, 4-3

K. G. by Senior Analyst Written on March 31, 2008

The Cubs lost 4-3 against the Brewers in 10 innings.

Carlos Zambrano pitched 6 2/3 innings only allowing 3 hits while striking out 5. He did not allow a run to score. Zambrano did have to leave early in the 7th inning after suffering a cramp in his right forearm.

In the top of the 9th, Kerry Wood was called upon to pitch but allowed 3 runs to cross the plate and give the Brewers a late 3-0 lead.

Kosuke Fukudome went 3-3 in his debut, hitting a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 9th, but the Cubs pitching was no help in the top of the 10th as they allowed the Brewers to score the go-ahead run.

Dave Riske came on in the bottom of the 10th to pick up the save. Eric Gagne got the win as Bob Howry took the loss.
