The Nets didn’t get Josh Smith at the trade deadline, and really they never had a chance because their assets weren’t going to get the job done. They also won’t have enough cap space to sign him in the offseason, or anybody of his caliber, considering they’ll likely be over the luxury tax line until 2016. So admittedly this post has very little to with the Nets. It’s mostly about an impending free agent who, like Deron Williams in his Utah days, understands the limitations of playing in a small market.
