With free agency about to kick off, the rumor mills are heating up.

In fact, a new name has hit the rumor mill in connection with the New York Giants.

According to Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger, the Giants are one of several teams interested in former Cleveland Browns return specialist Joshua Cribbs:

Per @marykaycabot, the Giants are among teams that have expressed interest in WR/KR Joshua Cribbs, along with SF, ARI, DAL and NE. #nyg

The 29-year-old is set to be a free agent on Tuesday when the period begins for all 32 teams to negotiate with players.

According to Vrentas, the 49ers, Patriots, Cowboys and Cardinals are the other teams reported to have interest in Cribbs.

As a wide receiver, Cribbs has been very limited in his production, but his skills as a return specialist are what make Cribbs an attractive option.

Cribbs could take the spot of Domenik Hixon on the team, who is also a free agent.

However, according to Vrentas, the Giants' level of interest has yet to be determined, and the team could just be doing its due diligence scouting the market.

Cribbs has the speed and the elusiveness to be a weapon on the field, and with the Browns likely not bringing him back, Cribbs has a chance to get a decent offer and more exposure on a new team.

It'll be interesting to see if the Giants do pursue Cribbs next week, or if they decide to pass and bring back the veteran Hixon.

Stay tuned, Giants fans.
