Batting average and RBI; these are important stats, but today we will look the big stat, the one everybody wants to see and loves to keep track of. Yes, we're talking about the beloved home run.
Alex Rodriquez was a monster when it came to hitting home runs in 2007. A-rod smacked 19 HR in the month of April alone and went on to hit 54 on the season. Behind him was Prince Fielder with 50, and Ryan Howard with 47 to round out the top 3.
An offseason has passed and the slate has been wiped clean for all Major League hitters. Who will go on to hit 50+ home runs this season? Let's predict.
The month of April will determine the home run king, as it did last year with Alex Rodriquez. Whoever can hit 15+ home runs in the first month of play and keep up somewhat with that pace will find themselves atop the league leaders at season's end.
Of course there will be players that catch fire mid-season as did Carlos Pena, but with hitters these days, your going to need a full season of slugging the ball to come out on top.
Projected Home Run Leaderboard For 2008
1. Ryan Howard - 54
2. Prince Fielder- 52
3. Alex Rodriquez - 49
4. David Ortiz - 43
5. Carlos Pena - 41
Please note that these predictions are based on gut fealings, not stat studying.
