When Jonathan Bernier was selected No. 11 overall in 2006, Jonathan Quick was but a gleam in the eye of Los Angeles Kings management.
Quick's stellar 2011-12 performance -- including winning the Conn Smythe Trophy during the Kings Stanley Cup Championship -- has put Bernier in a tough spot. On the bench.
He's arguably one of the best goalies in the NHL, but resigned to hold a clipboard each night. And for the Kings, they're wasting a great resource that could lead to immediate roster depth.
Ah, but there is good news on the horizon for both Bernier and the Kings.
The current rash of injuries to goalies league-wide has created a major market for the position come the trade deadline in early April. That should bring a smile to the Kings who could flip Bernier into NHL ready talent to help Los Angeles secure a playoff spot.
Bernier should be equally amped because the current climate could mean new scenery and a lot more ice time for a goalie looking to prove himself in a meaningful way.
So, which teams should contact the Kings about Bernier? Check out the latest video from Bleacher Report to find out and please leave your thoughts in the comments below.
