WWE.com has broken the story that William Moody, known by all of us wrestling fans as Paul Bearer, has died tonight at the age of 58. Here is their official statement:
WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of William Moody, aka Paul Bearer. Moody made his WWE debut in 1991 as the manager of The Undertaker and went on to become a memorable part of WWE over the course of the next 20 years.
Our deepest condolences go out to Moody’s family, friends and fans.
No cause of death has been given yet. Bearer last worked for the WWE in 2012 when Kane left him locked in a freezer. Paul Bearer "died" many times throughout his WWE career; unfortunately, this one is real. Bearer will go down in WWE history as one of its greatest managers, and he will sorely be missed.
I think I speak for all wrestling fans when I say that we are all saddened by the news of Bearer's death and that a bit of our childhoods died along with him. It's ironic that the news of Bearer's passing comes the day after the WWE's legendary phenom The Undertaker returns.
Rest in peace, Paul Bearer, we will never forget your large contribution to the WWE, especially in its Attitude Era. Gone, but never forgotten.
