WWE WrestleMania 29: Why The Rock Should Wrestle Before the Big Event

Adrian FylonenkoFeatured ColumnistMarch 4, 2013

The Rock should have a match (or two) before WrestleMania 29, because he needs to be at his very best when he takes on John Cena.

It doesn't take a genius to see that The Rock isn't the same wrestler he was 10-15 years ago, but that's what happens when you haven't wrestled in nearly a decade.

Cena and CM Punk gave the WWE Universe a treat last Monday night by having one of the best matches in Raw history.

The match proved that Cena is still a very talented Superstar and that he is ready to showcase his skills at WrestleMania.

The Rock is incredibly fit, but there is a difference between being in shape and being in wrestling shape.

There have even been rumors about the WWE locker room questioning The Rock's in-ring fitness.

When you haven't wrestled in 10+ years, you can't expect to put on a five-star quality match. Five-star matches are what all WWE Superstars should be striving for when they’re competing at WrestleMania.

The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 28 wasn't as good as it could have been. It had a lot of hype, and everyone was excited to see the epic showdown, but overall, I thought the main event was a letdown.

Prior to WrestleMania, The Rock competed in only one wrestling match, which was a tag team match at Survivor Series 2011.

If The Rock competes before WrestleMania 29, he would feel more comfortable in the ring and would know how to train for his future match with John Cena.

CM Punk vs. The Rock is a great example of The Rock not being in wrestling shape. Their match at Royal Rumble was sloppy, and it seemed like Punk was frustrated from the get-go.

Their rematch at Elimination Chamber was a lot better, but The Rock still looked gassed and off with some of his maneuvers.

CM Punk and The Rock do not have that magical in-ring chemistry, and from what I saw at WrestleMania 28, Cena and Rock don't have it either.

Our WWE Champion should be wrestling on Raw and/or SmackDown, just like CM Punk (before his injury) and John Cena did when they were champions.

Hell, The Rock hasn't even showed up to Raw in three weeks, which is mind-blowing considering he is the WWE Champion.

But we know that acting is his top priority and passion. Those movies aren't going to shoot themselves, right?

Having a match before WrestleMania would help The Rock get into wrestling shape. Once that happens, his matches will be more crisp and faster-paced.

If you believe that CM Punk should be the current WWE champion, you must understand that money rules everything when it comes to the professional wrestling business.

Sometimes the most talented wrestlers do not get a chance to hold the World Title simply because they aren't marketable.

The Rock is the biggest draw in the WWE and generates the most PPV buys (WrestleMania 28).

That's why The Rock is the WWE champion.

There is no doubt that he still has the charisma and that million-dollar smile, but he needs to be in better shape.

Most importantly, if we must see The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 29, we want to see the best match possible.

The Rock being in wrestling shape gives the WWE Universe a better chance at witnessing greatness.
