Atlanta-Washington: Leave Bush Alone

MirandaMar 31, 2008

I was so excited about the Braves season opener. It was a prime time game, ESPN picked it up, and I wanted to see what the Nationals’ new park looked like.

The game was exciting!

The Nats were doing pretty damn well. Hudson had a bad first inning, resulting in two runs for Washington. Hudson settled down and went seven innings, which is always awesome from your starting pitcher. Chipper Jones hit the first homerun in the new ballpark and we rallied in the ninth inning, only to lose in the bottom of the ninth to Zimmerman’s walk off homerun.

Exciting right? Not really.

Honestly, I kept thinking back to the pre-game ceremonies when our nation’s president was announced to throw the ceremonial first pitch. All I heard were boos. I was in shock and couldn’t do anything else but laugh.

This man is our president; forget politics for just two minutes. I didn’t vote for the man, but I would have never booed him. Let alone, at our nation’s capital. It is funny, though, how ESPN has yet to mention the jeers of the Nationals crowd.

I will be the first to admit that our president is an idiot. I will be the first to admit that I cannot wait until November when this man gets replaced. But I will also be the first to say that booing the man like that was rude and proves how fickle and pretentious our nation really is. I mean, we did technically vote the man in, and twice at that. You cannot blame him, he just ran again and was re-elected. Whose fault is that other than America’s?

Do not bring that self-righteous, false sense of arrogance into my game. It is not baseball’s job to clean up the White House...nor is it the White House’s job to clean up baseball. So from now on, let’s just stick to our strengths. Bush go run the country to the best of your ability and stay FAR away from baseball. And baseball, leave the politics at home and to the voting poles.
