WrestleMania 29: The Rock/John Cena Match Cannot Live Up to the Hype

It's a match the WWE wants and thinks can sell, but are the fans of the company and WrestleMania 29 buying it?

That is the question that must be answered when John Cena gets a crack at the WWE Championship in a rematch with The Rock at WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey.

Last year, this was the match for the ages, the one that would only happen once and the one that would forever define the greatest superstar in WWE history. It wasn't supposed to happen again.

It's one year later and John Cena gets another crack at redemption. In a year that has so far been defined by the WWE's greatest marketing tool, Cena appears ready to take the title and begin another reign as champion.

I wonder what CM Punk thinks about all of this while he waits for Undertaker to make up his mind to wrestle on April 7 or not? It is Punk, not The Rock, who should be in the main event against Cena, and I will stand by that belief until The Rock loses and leaves the WWE again.

Yes, it will happen.

The WWE took a full year last year to build The Rock and Cena as if it was the second coming of Bruno Sammartino and Pedro Morales. How can the company that prides itself on the buildup take a rematch that should be even bigger than the first confrontation and give it less than three months of promotion?

Sounds like Vince isn't so worried about who holds the belt or how the belt is defended as long as he is promoting movies and seeing how far Brock Lesnar and Triple H can take a meaningless feud. We are 37 days away from WrestleMania 29, The Undertaker has not "surprised" us yet with his return and we aren't certain where major superstars stand with matches like Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus and the split of Team Hell No.

Nothing and everything makes sense. And still, I get the sense after what was an amazing WrestleMania 28 last year, this one might fall short. That would be a huge disappointment to the wrestling community. This is not the time of year when the WWE needs to be tinkering with what has worked in the past.

It's time to see if this match between The Rock and Cena will really deliver.
