Must-See MMA Fights for the Month of March

1 of 11

There are nine major and semi-major MMA events taking place throughout the month of March. In like a lion, out like a lion, am I right?

Ah, that's great. With all these events happening online, on cable and on pay-per-view, it's impossible to keep track of them all. Seriously. It simply can't be done. At least not without this slideshow.

These are the 10 fights happening across the MMA March map that you cannot miss. Viewing coordinates and everything else you need are included. No need to read anything else this month. It's my own personal service to the public.

10. John Makdessi vs. Daron Cruickshank

2 of 11

    Division: Lightweight
    Event: UFC 158
    Date: March 16
    See it on: FX

When last we saw Daron Cruickshank, he was snapping off a head kick on Henry Martinez and raising his hands without even following up (or needing to follow up).

John Makdessi, who last year got well in the UFC at the expense of Sam Stout, has seven TKO wins to his credit. Yeah, should be some pyrotechnics here.

9. Marlon Moraes vs. Tyson Nam

3 of 11

    Division: Bantamweight
Event: World Series of Fighting 2
    Date: March 23
See it on: NBC Sports Network

Moraes added spice to the WSOF 1 telecast with his upset of Miguel Torres. Tyson Nam's big moment in the sun was decidedly grainier and came last year when he knocked out reigning Bellator belt-holder Eduardo Dantas.

Nam's been highly regarded for some time, though, and this could be his true coming-out moment.

8. Cathal Pendred vs. Gael Grimaud

4 of 11

    Division: Welterweight
    Event: Cage Warriors: CWFC 52
    Date: March 9
    See it on: MMAJunkie.com, Facebook

I believe we may have an Irish Invasion on our hands. First you've got Conor McGregor heading to the UFC, now you've got teammate Cathal Pendred fighting for the Cage Warriors welterweight belt.

The well-rounded 25-year-old prospect hasn't lost in more than two years, but he's got a stiff test in Gael Grimaud, a 33-year-old veteran with a tidy little eight-fight winning streak of his own, including one over The Ultimate Fighter notable Jesse Taylor.

Plenty on the line in this one.

7. Dave Jansen vs. Marcin Held

5 of 11

    Division: Lightweight
    Event: Bellator 93
    Date: March 21
    See it on: Spike TV

Here's a super-fun trivia question: Why is the Season 7 Bellator lightweight championship being contested on the same night as Season 8 draws to a close?

The answer: Because Marcin Held was too young to enter the casino where the fight was taking place. He was 20, and you needed to be 21, but since I think he's 47 now, it should definitely not be an issue.

6. Andrei Arlovski vs. Anthony Johnson

6 of 11

    Division: Heavyweight
Event: World Series of Fighting 2
    Date: March 23
See it on: NBC Sports Network

Wow. Remember these guys? I still can't believe Anthony Johnson used to fight as a welterweight. On the other side, I still can't believe Andrei Arlovski is an active fighter.

The former has looked more than comfortable at his new divisional and promotional homes, while the latter has kept busy crushing cans (Travis Fulton, anyone?) while he shakes off the cobwebs after those four consecutive whoopings he took not too long ago.

5. David Rickels vs. Saad Awad

7 of 11

    Division: Lightweight
    Event: Bellator 94
    Date: March 28
    See it on: Spike TV

These two punched their tickets (almost literally) into this bout just Thursday night. Both men are pure brawlers, with Awad in particular showing some true viciousness of late.

4. Ben Saunders vs. Douglas Lima

8 of 11

    Division: Welterweight
    Event: Bellator 93
    Date: March 21
    See it on: Spike TV

The first time they fought, Douglas Lima scored a flash knockout. In this season's welterweight tournament final, surely his American Top Team-mate Ben Saunders would like to return the favor.

Both men have blazed wide trails through their respective brackets, with each landing a one-shot knockout in the semis.

3. Johny Hendricks vs. Carlos Condit

9 of 11

    Division: Welterweight
    Event: UFC 158
    Date: March 16
    See it on: Pay-per-view

    Insert something about popcorn here.

Can Hendricks win another one of these dangerous matchups? This is probably his most dangerous yet. No MMA fan needs to be convinced this one is appointment viewing.

2. Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz

10 of 11

    Division: Welterweight
    Event: UFC 158
    Date: March 16
    See it on: Pay-per-view

The second-greatest fighter in the world has appeared kind of stiff lately. Like he's not having fun anymore. But that didn't seem to bother him against Condit, and it's probably not going to bother him against Diaz. Now it would just be nice if we could get some heat back behind this match.

1. Takanori Gomi vs. Diego Sanchez

11 of 11

    Division: Lightweight
Event: UFC on Fuel TV 8
    Date: March 3
    See it on: Fuel TV

    No heat generation needed.

Two crazy (and I mean crazy), huge-hearted and immensely popular lightweight brawlers meet in the center of Saitama Super Arena. How do you get any better than this? From the perspective of the, you know, quality of the fight, this is the evening's clear main event.
