Washington-1, Philadelphia-4 (FINAL)
The Philadelphia Flyers dominated the Washington Capitals in a 4-1 win tonight in Philadelphia. The Flyers scored 23 seconds into the game and never looked back chasing Braden Holtby by the mid-point of the 2nd period. One bright spot for the Caps was backup goalie Philipp Gurbauer, who relieved Holtby, did not allow any more goals and made some tremendous saves along the way.
The Caps did not play well most of the game and did not really seem to want to match the energy and intensity of the Flyers tonight.
For the Flyers, it was a measure of revenge for losing to the Caps 3-2 back on February 1.
The Flyers move to 10-11-1 on the season and they now sit in sole possession of eight place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points. They play next on Saturday when they host the Ottawa Senators.
The Caps fall to 7-11-1 and remain tied with Buffalo for last place in the Eastern Conference with 15 points. The Caps play next on Saturday when they travel to Winnipeg to take on a Jets team that is playing very well as of late.
Here are some final stats for the game:
Goals: Capitals-1, Flyers-4
Shots: Capitals- 24, Flyers-32
Hits: Capitals-22, Flyers- 26

A disappointing night for the Caps to be sure—but a great night if you are a Flyers fan.

Washington-1, Philadelphia-4 (FINAL)
Well that was a rather disappointing effort by the Caps who were never really in this game. I don't know if they were tired or what. But effort like that will not get the Caps very far at all if they hope to get back into the playoff race this season.
Here ares some final stats from a disappointing night in Philly:
Goals: Capitals-1, Flyers-4
Shots: Capitals- 24, Flyers-32
Hits: Capitals-22, Flyers- 26
Faceoff Wins: Capitals- 34, Flyers-27
Blocks: Capitals-21, Flyers- 21
At least Joel Ward prevented the shutout.

GOAL CAPS
Joel Ward finally breaks up the shutout. Ward has been working his butt off all night so good to see him get rewarded.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (2:14 3rd Period)
Ovechkin almost gets a breakaway opportunity but Bryzgalov shuts the door again. The Caps need a real break if they are going to score tonight.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (6:12 3rd Period)
Some good work by Ovi, Alzner and Backstrom nearly yields a goal but Ilya Bryzgalov is still pitching the shutout.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (8:50 3rd Period)
Grubauer is the only reason this game is not absurd by now. The Flyers are out shooting the Caps 30-15. A two to one advantage is just inexcusable for a Caps team that had been playing so well.
The Caps look like they are trying to end the shutout though. I guess that's something positive.

Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (13:14 3rd Period)
The Flyers continue to dominate and are out shooting the Caps 7-1 in the third period. You would never know they are the team with the four goal lead.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (15:45 3rd Period)
Grubauer just made some great saves to keep things 4-0. The kid has looked sharp so far but now the Flyers are on the power play.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (17:50 3rd Period)
It looks like the only remaining drama will be whether Bryzgalov can complete the shutout. The Caps don't look like they are pressing too much to disrupt that.
The final look at this classic rivalry for the night—the Flyers win Game 7 against the Caps in 2008.
LOL listening to Mike Milbury verbally rip @washcaps's Ovechkin to shreds and compare him to pee-wee hockey players is hilarious #pwned
— Big Stall (@BigStall) February 28, 2013
This kind of sums up Mike Millbury's ripping of Alex Ovechkin.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (End of 2nd Period)
Here are the stats through two periods:
Goals: Capitals-0, Flyers-4
Shots: Capitals- 12, Flyers-22
Hits: Capitals-13, Flyers- 19
Faceoff Wins: Capitals- 24, Flyers-16
Blocks: Capitals-14, Flyers- 16
Can Bryzgalov get the shutout of the Caps?

Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (End of 2nd Period)
This game is pretty much done. The Caps were completely outplayed in the 2nd period as they had all of three shots on goal in the period.
Mike Millbury is ripping Alexander Ovechkin on TV right now and all of it is deserved. Ovi is going through the motions, as is Backstrom and most of the team as well.
For the Flyers, you have to love the way Scotty Hartnell is playing tonight. It has been a rough year for Hartnell with the broken foot, but he has two assists tonight as the Flyers look really good.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-4 (3:33 2nd Period)
Holtby has been pulled and Philipp Grubauer, a very good goalie from the Hershey Bears, is in net for the Caps now. This might be the only drama Caps fans have the rest of the game to see how well Grubauer will play.
I am kind of excited to see how he does.

GOAL FLYERS
This is under review but it is going to stand. An absolute rocket from Max Talbot. Maybe Holtby should have had it but that is a tough shot to stop from that close.
A dominating performance from the Flyers so far.
Joel Ward is playing hard tonight

Washington-0, Philadelphia-3 (7:12 2nd Period)
Joel Ward is doing everything he can to get the Caps back in the game as he spearheaded a strong shift that almost got the Caps on the board. If everyone else was playing like that, this game would be much closer.
Bryzgalov looks strong tonight. It will take a good shot to beat him and the Caps are not putting enough shots on him in the 2nd period so far.

Washington-0, Philadelphia-3 (11:41 2nd Period)
A very frustrating game for Caps fans. A pretty weak power play chance was followed up by some really good chances for the Flyers to go up 4-0. Holtby is not the problem tonight. It's a lack of effort on the part of the Caps that is hurting them tonight.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-3 (16:06 2nd Period)
GOAL FLYERS
Welcome back Simon Gagne. Gagne cashes in on the Flyers second power play goal of the evening and the Flyers have got this game well in hand. To his credit, Holtby almost made an amazing save but really had no chance.
The Caps are going on the power play. They need to convert here.
Another great moment in this great rivalry between the Caps and Flyers—Alexander Ovechkin's first playoff goal, and a game winner to boot, against the Flyers from the 2008 playoffs.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-2 (End of 1st Period)
Not a good first 20 minutes for the Caps as they were outscored and pretty well out played for much of the 1st period.
Here are some stats from the 1st Period:
Goals: Capitals-0, Flyers-2
Shots: Capitals- 9, Flyers-10
Hits: Capitals-4, Flyers- 11
Faceoff Wins: Capitals- 15, Flyers-7
Blocks: Capitals-7, Flyers- 11
That really tells the tale. The Caps are being outshot, outhit and just out worked.
It will be interesting to see what the next 20 minutes brings.
Washington-0 Philadelphia-2 (4:35 1st Period)
So much for the Caps playing better. The Flyers just seriously outworked the Caps, canceled out an icing play and very nearly made it 3-0. Philly looks like they want it a lot more than Washington so far.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-2 (7:10 1st Period)
Caps are starting to play better and press the issue a bit more. Let's see if they can keep it going.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-2 (9:38 1st Period)
Bryzgalov makes a good glove save on Wolski to keep the Flyers ahead 2-0.
The Caps need to get going with the forecheck and stop letting the Flyers come up ice so easily.
For the Flyers, they just need to keep doing what they are doing. A really good first period for the Flyers so far.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-2 (11:45 1st Period)
The Caps squander a power play opportunity. Ovi had a good chance about midway through the power play but his shot never got to the net.
The Flyers have been the better team so far that's for sure.
Washington-0, Philadelphia-2 (15:49 1st Period)
GOAL FLYERS
Wayne Simmonds gets down and dirty to get a power-play goal to out the Flyers up 2-0. It is all Philly so far but the Caps are about to go on the power play themselves.
