Wisconsin's Ryan Evans Solves Free-Throw Woes with Jumpshots from the Line

When all else fails, just start taking jump shots. 

That's pretty much the solution Ryan Evans went with when he hit a yip-riddled wall from the free-throw line this season. 

Yahoo! Sports reports on the Wisconsin senior who was forced into the land of the creative to solve free-throw shooting that went from 72.6 percent last year to a meager 40.5 percent before Tuesday night's game against Nebraska. 

While he only took two shots from the charity stripe in the 77-46 win, both went in. It's no surprise, then, that Evans decided to stick with the bizarre shots for the time being.

Well it worked tonight, so I’m going to keep it going. I think it might have been the first time all season I went 100 percent from the free-throw line, so that’s an accomplishment.

"

His free-throw shooting wasn't the only thing to take a hit, with field-goal percentage sliding from .440 to .393 this season and three-point percentage sinking from .263 to .087. 

Still, the most visible problem was when he stepped to the lonely island that is the free-throw line only to see so many clank off this year. 

The yips are no joke, and they can derail some great careers. Chuck Knoblauch famously struggled to get balls from second base to first, causing a move to left field. 

And speaking of Chucks, Charles Barkley has long suffered from golf-related frustration, leading to a rather, um, unorthodox swing. 

So you can see how these things can turn disastrous if left unchecked. Hopefully, Evans has this all worked out. 

After all, when life hands you lemons, you toss them carelessly from the free-throw line.
