WWE WrestleMania 29: 5 Matches That Need to Happen This Year

0 of 5

With the two World Title matches set for WWE WrestleMania 29, it is time to begin speculating on what the rest of the card will bring.

WWE fans are begging for undercard matches that will bring the same excitement and intrigue as the main events. Whether it is brother against brother, partner against partner or simply having The Undertaker compete, there are matches that need to happen.

Will we see a Divas title match this year at WrestleMania? Will Goldust get his dream match?

Here are five matches that need to happen this year at WWE WrestleMania 29.

Goldust vs. Cody Rhodes

1 of 5

Goldust has not been shy about wanting a match with his brother, Cody Rhodes, this year at WrestleMania 29.

I have also been adamant about promoting the idea. This is a match that needs to happen this year, and there is no reason for it not to happen.

Cody Rhodes recently ended his partnership with Damien Sandow, despite their friendship continuing. Since returning to singles competition, Rhodes has had a terrible record. He continues to lose to the likes of The Miz and Sheamus.

Goldust made his return to WWE as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble this year. He immediately set his eyes on his brother, who would eventually eliminate Goldust.

With Cody searching for relevancy again, this would be the perfect opportunity for the brothers to clash.

It could help Cody get back to his winning ways with a victory over the legendary Goldust.

Divas Championship: Kaitlyn vs. A.J. Lee

2 of 5

The former Chickbusters, A.J. Lee and Kaitlyn, need to have a match this year at WrestleMania 29 for the Divas championship.

Since capturing the Divas title in her hometown, Kaitlyn has rarely been seen on WWE programming.

With WrestleMania in A.J.’s home state of New Jersey, it is the perfect opportunity for her to win the title.

Putting the title on A.J. needs to happen, as it would do wonders for the Divas championship. Even though we rarely witness a Divas match on WWE programming, AJ is still the ideal Diva to hold the belt.

In 2000, Stephanie McMahon held the women’s championship, despite rarely defending the title. A.J. is perfectly capable of defending the title more often and increasing the number of Divas matches on WWE TV, but that is more dependent on the competition.

Regardless, at WrestleMania 29, A.J. and Kaitlyn need to continue the rivalry they have begun and bring just a little bit more relevancy to the Divas title.

Kane vs. Daniel Bryan

Team Hell No has certainly run their course at this point, as evident by very similar interactions between the two night in and night out.

Bryan and Kane are still entertaining, but it seems like WrestleMania 29 would be the perfect time for this storyline to end.

The issue with having Bryan and Kane square off against one another would be the lack of a tag team title match.

However, this issue can be solved with having the titles on the line. Whichever Superstar wins the match would officially be determined the undisputed tag team champions.

The winner could then choose a new partner for the remainder of their reign.

Undertaker vs. Anyone

Speculation regarding The Undertaker’s participation in WrestleMania 29 will not end until fans learn who his opponent will be. Regardless of the opponent, Undertaker needs to have a match at WrestleMania this year.

Undertaker made a surprise return at a house show in Texas recently, causing many fans to believe he would return to Raw as well.

Unfortunately, Undertaker did not make an appearance on Raw, but with next week being an old-school edition of Raw, the possibility of a return is possible.

One could argue that CM Punk foreshadowed a feud beginning with Undertaker when he referred to himself as a God and an icon.

There are a number of possible opponents for The Undertaker at WrestleMania that I discussed further, but the most likely scenario is CM Punk.

Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara

5 of 5

Even though we have not seen Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara nearly as much recently, this match needs to happen at WrestleMania 29.

Mysterio and Cara were doing very well as a tag team in the up-and-coming division, but due to injuries and personal issues, the team has disappeared.

Back in September, there were reports that WWE still wanted to build towards a Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara match. The match would give WWE an opportunity to break the record for most masks worn in one place at the same time.

As long as the two WWE Superstars are healthy and family issues don’t interfere, the match should still happen.
