0 of 20

The goaltender is often an NHL's team most important player because they are the last line of defense on the ice.

During the shortened season to date there have been some amazing saves like Kari Lehtonen's backhand glove save, Ryan Miller's save against Boston and Pekka Rinne's multiple stops against the St. Louis Blues

Many of these saves have been highlight-reel worthy exhibitions of talent and skill, and here are the 20 best saves from the season to date.

Henrik Lundqvist Robs David Krejci

The Boston Bruins thought they had taken a 3-1 lead over the New York Rangers, but Henrik Lundqvist absolutely robbed David Krejci with an amazing glove save.

Jake Allen's Amazing Stick Save

3 of 20

Jake Allen stepped in when Jaroslav Halak was injured, and he proved to be a valuable part of the team.

Allen gave the team a great chance to win while they were missing their starting goaltender, and this amazing stick save on T.J. Brodie's shot should be a save of the year candidate.

Roberto Luongo Makes Amazing Desperation Save

When the 2013 season started, everyone thought that Cory Schneider would be the main man for the Vancouver Canucks, but Roberto Luongo has played a significant role for the team.

Jimmy Howard Makes a Beautiful Glove Save

5 of 20

The Detroit Red Wings have leaned on Jimmy Howard for a big part of the 2013 season, and he has responded well so far.

Howard is an athletic goaltender with a great glove hand, and he used that skill to his advantage while making this big save.

With saves like these, the Red Wings can go far in 2013.

Kari Lehtonen's Save of the Year

6 of 20

Kari Lehtonen was one of the NHL's best goaltenders last season before an injury derailed his momentum. Thus far he hasn't had the best luck with injuries, but he should be back soon.

This save on Jack Johnson reiterates why Lehtonen is a top goaltender, and it should be a contender for save of the year.

Ryan Miller Part One

7 of 20

James Neal is one of the NHL's top snipers and when the Pens faced off with the Buffalo Sabres during Hockey Day in America, the two teams battled back and forth.

Ryan Miller Robs Bergeron Again

Tomas Vokoun Makes Multiple Saves Against Winnipeg Jets

Tomas Vokoun came up big during the first save he made against Winnipeg's Blake Wheeler, but the rebound glove save he made against the ever-dangerous Evander Kane was a thing of beauty.

Pekka Rinne Stops T.J. Oshie

15 of 20

Pekka Rinne has been one of the NHL's top netminders thus far in 2013, and this is one of his best glove saves of the year.

Jonathan Quick Stones Nail Yakupov

16 of 20

Jonathan Quick's glove save on Nail Yakupov was absolutely amazing during this matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, but it has been severely overshadowed because of how the game turned out.

This is the infamous game in which Yakupov tied it up in the waning seconds of the game, and proceeded to celebrate Theo Fleury style.

Michal Neuvirth Robs the New Jersey Devils
