With the rest of the NBA shuffling their feet at the trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Hornets have reportedly engaged one another in a potential mini-blockbuster trade.
FYI: Source says trade talks involving Hornets G Eric Gordon and Warriors G Klay Thompson are at "more than exploratory" stage.— Sam Amico (@SamAmicoFSO) February 20, 2013
With Thompson working on a rookie contract and the ink still drying on the max offer sheet from the Phoenix Suns on Gordon that the Hornets matched, Amico noted that additional players would be required to make the deal work financially:
If Warriors were to make trade, it'd have to involve contract of either Richard Jefferson or Andris Biedrins, league sources say.— Sam Amico (@SamAmicoFSO) February 20, 2013
The Hornets have surfaced on the rumor mill throughout the weeks leading up to Thursday's deadline, but the Warriors are a relative newcomer to the trade talks. This could, perhaps, lead to some exclusive negotiations between the two teams.
But, as with any deadline talks, this deal is not a certainty.
Comcast SportsNet's Ric Bucher has heard from sources that it will not happen before the deadline. Bucher did hear that it's a possibility that the two teams could revisit this potential deal over the summer.
