WWE: What Might Happen to Jack Swagger Moving Forward

In case you missed it, Jack Swagger was arrested last night.

According to an article on TMZ.com:

"He has been charged with DUI (not alcohol), marijuana possession, and speeding -- all misdemeanors."

The article then goes on to quote someone from WWE saying that:

"Mr. Swagger is responsible for his own personal actions."

This incident could not have come at a worse time for Swagger professionally. Swagger, having just returned from taking time off, is in the midst of a huge push and a World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 29. If anyone in the business should know how hard it is to receive, maintain and keep a push, it's Swagger.

That being said, one has to wonder what type of impact this is going to have on Swagger moving forward. Although WWE has softened their PG death-lock in recent months, the company is, without question, still a PG program. Having one half of one of their WrestleMania main event matches arrested six weeks before the show isn't going to sit well with WWE brass.

If history is any indication, Swagger may be looking at a suspension.

Back in July of 2006, then WWE and ECW champion, RVD was arrested for possession of marijuana and Vicodin. Shortly after his arrest, Rob Van Dam lost both belts and was suspended for 30 days. Swagger isn't as high up on the ladder as RVD was at the time. However, if the WWE was thinking about putting the belt on him at WrestleMania, that could be over now. Regardless of their big picture plans, Swagger could still find himself suspended.

If WWE were to suspend Swagger, it might not necessarily be a death sentence for his current push. A 30-day suspension would have Swagger returning a week or two prior to WrestleMania. At that point, he could be written back into the World Heavyweight Championship picture or placed somewhere else on the card.

There is also the possibility that Swagger isn't suspended. I, for one, do not see this being likely, but anything is possible. If WWE chooses to not suspend Swagger, they most likely would want to sweep this under the rug.

Even though we have witnessed real-life issues used in storylines before, this one probably wouldn't work. If WWE were not to suspend him, you would have to imagine that he would be on incredibly thin ice moving forward.

At the time of this writing, WWE.com has yet to acknowledge Swagger's arrest. With Smackdown having been taped last night and airing Friday, it's possible they will wait until after that. It's also possible that they could add a segment to Smackdown that would have Swagger being suspended.

No matter what the outcome of this is, it's clear that Swagger just doesn't get it. The man has been on the receiving end of a few pushes gone wrong. Included in his failed pushes are a Money in the Bank victory and a reign as World Heavyweight Champion. Swagger's character seemed to have caught on fire a bit in the past few weeks with Zeb Colter as his manager. You would think that he would do everything in his power not to screw this up for himself.

For now we will all have to just wait and see what WWE decides to do with him.
