  1. In the past I attended BOTH the Martinsville and Bristol spring races. While gas prices and the exonomy stink the real reason I know longer attend (and will not in the future) is the starting time of the races. It takes me around 7 hours to drive home fro meach of these tracks after the race. When the race started at 1:00 PM I could be home close to midnight. Now... I wouldn't be home until at least 2:00 AM. I have to work Monday.

  2. Great point! I didn't even think about the start times. Also, as far as the California date, I failed to mention the still-stinging rescinding of the Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend, from Darlington. There are a lot of fans who still resent NASCAR giving that date to California, not to mention that its usually about 100 degrees at that time of the year at Fontana.

  4. Things may go deeper than weather, start times, and economy. I had (notice past tense) been an avid Nascar fan since the early 70's. I probably attended an average of 3 races a year in person, and the remainder on TV. I never missed a race. Three years ago I had the fortune (actually misfortune) of getting a garage pass at Richmond. There, I was able to meet the drivers. Most were downright rude. Several actually refused autographs. OK, I know it is a pain to be constantly bombarded by fans and sign autographs one-after-another. But hey, it comes with the turf. I have spent a small fortune supporting these guys. If they can't sign an autograph, I'm done. And so...I no longer watch or attend Nascar events. Maybe, just maybe, others are fed up with the attitudes.

  5. Go to an Indy car race, 300 miler in 1: 45 MIN.

  6. Good article, but I didn't see many empty seats at Bristol.

  7. Here's my take from up here in the Pacific Northwest where the snow is still coming May 2nd 08. The closest Nascar track is Fontana for a cup race at $5.00 a gallon for gas I am not going.Futher more TV or in person, I am not into the pit stops winning a race ,think on this, what ever time intervals the cars are running at a pre detirmened time, bring all in at the same time do thier so called pit stop and restart at the same intervals. I watch to see the drivers not the mechinics or the over rated crew chiefs. I can tell you that would put a end to the $100,000 fines that Nascar never tells you where the money goes, must have a hell of a party at the end of the season, running over a air hose 100 grand is that stupid or what , but you can run over a crew man and that is fair game no charge WOW what a sport makes me a little teary eyed how about you?
