If the incredibly diverse rosters around Major League Baseball weren't enough to convince people that America's pastime has worldwide appeal, the 2013 World Baseball Classic should do the trick.

Players representing 16 different countries will take to fields in different parts of the world in what is truly a global tournament, one that will ultimately be decided at the home of the reigning world champions, the San Francisco Giants.

If you're one of those fans who bemoans the fact that the WBC interrupts spring training, unfortunately this truly is the only time period that works. As Paul Archey, president of the World Baseball Classic, told me back in September, "There's no perfect time to hold it."

Yet the event has become an important part of the baseball landscape.

Not only does it bring the sport to places that it has never been before, but it opens eyes in front offices around the game, with scouts being dispatched to parts of the world never thought of as hotbeds of baseball talent prior to the first WBC, held back in 2006.

You never know where the next great slugger or ace of a rotation is going to come from.

With that said, let's take a look at what's in store for the third edition of the World Baseball Classic.
