Real Madrid's victory brings them back to just four points behind Atletico Madrid. But Los Blancos still trail Barcelona by a massive 16 points in the table.

Rayo Vallecano will need to bounce back from this loss if they are to challenge for a spot in Europe. Los Vallecanos have a very good chance at finishing the best they every have in the La Liga table.

Real Madrid pulls off the victory despite being a man down. Alvaro Morata and Sergi Ramos score early, but Vallecano are not able to capitalize with an advantage.

Very intriguing that Rayo Vallecano have enjoyed 61% possession on the night. Not many teams can do that against Los Blancos, especially with Real Madrid winning.

Neither side looks like they are going for a goal at this point. It appears as though both are playing for the final whistle.

No much time remaining for Rayo Vallecano. They have certainly played their hearts out and a goal could come.

Rayo strike the post after a beautiful free kick was sent into the box. But the lineman raises the flag as nothing appears to be going in Rayo's favor.

Vallecano play the ball with two hands but no card is given. You can understand where Mourinho's anger is coming from. The referee is no showing consistency. 

74'—Khedira rounds the keeper but no goal comes.

The keeper cuts off the angle and a pass is sent across the box. But sadly for Real Madrid, no one was waiting to slot the chance home.

73'—Vazquez enters for Trashorras.

The Rayo attack continues to put crosses into the Real Madrid box. This change might give those crosses a better chance of delivering a goal.

68'—Angel Di Maria replaces Ozil.

The Argentine really needs to get himself going and this game provides the perfect chance.

67'—Real Madrid are getting plenty of chances.

Many shots are coming at the Rayo Vallecano keeper. But the defense is doing well to stomp out the chances.

Piti had a brilliant chance to take a goal back for Rayo. But he hits his teammates with the shot and Madrid get possession back.

Despite his assist to begin the game, Ozil has been relatively disappointing in this encounter. Kaka has truly shown him up so far.

Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo link up beautifully on the break. A goal probably should have come but the Vallecano defense wins the ball back.

Real Sociedad and Levante played to a 1-1 draw in the first La Liga game today.

Valencia continue to improve as they defeated Mallorca by a score of 2-0.

Atletico Madrid cruised to a 3-0 victory against Real Valladolid and continue to stay ahead of Real Madrid.

Lastly, there is yet another La Liga game going on right now. Espanyol lead soaring side Real Betis 1-0 at halftime in Catalonia.
