The Eastern Conference celebrity All-Star team couldn’t hang and was blown out by its Western Conference opponents, 58-38, at the 2013 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game in Houston on Friday night.
Former teammates James Harden and Russell Westbrook were dressed to impress while leading their respective conference’s celebrity All-Star teams. It was Harden, though, who found the hot lineup and got the most out of his players.
The East couldn’t find a way to score, registering just 19 total points and trailing the West by 11 at intermission.
The second half wasn’t much different in the scoring department, for either team. The East managed just 19 more points in the remaining half and the West put up 28 to round out the scoring.
Russell Wesbtrook’s Pants
Russell Westrbook’s pants were a hot topic for much of the first half. Kevin Hart made it his mission to find out what size the Oklahoma City Thunder guard was sporting, and they drew various remarks throughout the night:
Kevin Hart’s Guarantee
Comedian Kevin Hart, last year’s Celebrity Game MVP, predicted a repeat performance, and more, for himself in this year’s game. He dubbed it a “Quintuple-Double” stat line made up of 40 points, 30 rebounds, 25 assists, 15 steals and 10 blocks.
Too bad he left his basketball shoes at home. Hart didn’t exactly measure up to the lofty pregame prediction of a quintuple-double on the court, but was entertaining to the max and helped make the event another success.
Dikembe Mutombo’s Rejection
Legendary center Dikembe Mutombo had a slight height advantage on the court against the group of celebrities he was up against. His recent appearance in GEICO’s Super Bowl commercial created a huge buzz around the country. Naturally, he cashed in on that by waving his finger after swatting an opposing player in the paint:
Usain Bolt Dunk
Traveling violation excluded, Usain Bolt threw down a nice transition jam with ease. The Olympic sprinter has hops, too, it seems.
Stuart Scott interrogated Bolt on his apparent travel, but he stuck to his guns and claimed innocence. “Two steps,” Bolt said during the broadcast.
Kevin Hart Hit a Hook Shot
Hart penetrated into the paint and hit a surprisingly nice-looking baby hook:
Hart and Bolt in a Race!
We all know how fast Usain Bolt is in a straight-up race, but how well did he perform against Kevin Hart in a there-and-back layup race against Kevin Hart? Check it out:
An emotional Hart received the MVP award following the game, with some heavy skepticism from his peers based on his cumulative stat line of five points, three rebounds and one assist.
