The St. Louis Blues have the NHL's lowest payroll, but the league's best power play. They are capitalizing with the man-advantage 34.8 percent of the time — more than four times as often as the Avalanche (8.1).

The Avs' payroll is similar — fourth-lowest, approximately $52.5 million. That's more than $3 million more than the Blues', but Colorado's power play has become embarrassingly bad. The Avs have scored only three times in 37 man-advantage opportunities.
