The Shield is set to go up against Sheamus, Ryback and John Cena on Sunday at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
John Cena, though, will be the one who ultimately destroys the Shield.
The group has already handled themselves well against Ryback, Sheamus doesn’t seem to have WrestleMania plans at the moment, so if he lost on Sunday it wouldn’t have too much of an effect.
John Cena is the real problem for the Shield at Elimination Chamber.
He has a big match coming up at WrestleMania, so it’s hard to imagine how the one wrestler in the company who rarely loses, will lose a match against a group of younger wrestlers like the Shield.
And if the Shield somehow manages to walk away with a win over the top guy in the company, where will the group go from there?
Their match at Elimination Chamber will be a big test for the Shield, since they are going up against some of the top guys in the WWE.
However, with ‘Mania right around the corner, Cena is going to need all the help he can get to look like he stands a chance against the Brahma Bull.
Dismantling the group that claims to stand for justice might end up being the WWE’s way of giving Cena a push.
Their involvement with John Cena will lead to the Shield’s destruction.
Hitting a Wall
While seeing the Shield go up against the bigger names in the WWE, specifically John Cena, might seem like a big push, it will eventually go nowhere.
John Cena rarely loses; his last feud with Dolph Ziggler is a perfect example of Cena’s “overcome” anything ability.
How then, can the Shield overcome the face of the company?
Since Cena is one of the top wrestler’s in the WWE, it’s hard to see why he would need a push, especially from three up and coming wrestlers.
The Shield, though, has done an excellent job in defining their grief with the face of the company.
So of course, when the young wrestlers define the biggest problem in the WWE as being Cena himself, the Dr. of Thuganomics will more than likely respond by beating the group at Elimination Chamber.
It looks even worse for the Shield when Cena’s WrestleMania 29 status is added into the picture.
He’s going to need all the help he can get if the WWE wants fans to believe he can stand a chance against the Rock in April.
The Shield will hit a wall if they continue to feud with John Cena, one that they won't be able to get over.
Cena and his constant ability to overcome everything and never lose will play a part in destroying the Shield.
Some of John Cena's recent feuds didn’t turn out for the better, and prove how bad it can be for wrestlers to get tangled in a feud with him.
The Big Show last year found himself in a feud with Cena. Even though it might have seemed like a main event push for Show, he constantly looked weak against Cena, and never managed to beat the face of the company at a PPV.
Wasn’t Show supposed to dominate as a monster heel? Instead, he seemed weak, and his creditability as a monster heel was destroyed by Cena.
More recently Cena was involved in a feud with Dolph Ziggler. And while he didn't destroy the Show Off completely, he did destroy any momentum the future World Heavyweight Champion had.
How many times did Ziggler need to try a different finishing move on Cena, just to see him kick out? The Show Off seemed to be sitting on the verge of becoming World Heavy Weight Champion. His feud with Cena destroyed his momentum.
As mentioned earlier, Cena's never give up gimmick hurts those who get tangled in a feud with him.
It will have the same effect on the Shield; the only difference is that the Shield isn't established in the WWE yet as much as the Big Show or Dolph Ziggler.
The WWE needs to learn from the past mistakes when it comes to getting other wrestlers involved in feuds with Cena. The Shield is still relatively new in the WWE, so if Cena stops their momentum now, it might be hard for them to recover and seem like a serious threat.
The Wrong Move
To throw the Shield against Sheamus, Ryback and more specifically John Cena is a mistake by the WWE. One group will lose, and more than likely it will be the Shield.
What happened to the storyline where the Shield was involved with Paul Heyman? Why instead, do we see a shift involving the Shield feuding with Cena? It seems like a rush to the top, which could ultimately destroy the Shield.
Not only is Cena like a wall, but with WrestleMania 29 only a couple of months away, there wasn’t enough time to build up the Elimination Chamber match.
The Shield has also been thrown out of the ring by Cena, Sheamus and Ryback two weeks in a row on RAW.
These three young stars show great potential, and more time should be invested in placing them somewhere in the WWE.
The Shield would have been better off in a story involving Paul Heyman, but that story angle seems dead now.
Instead, they have to try and overcome Cena, which no wrestler really ever does. The Shield seemed like a real threat in the WWE, but getting involved with Cena will ultimately destroy them, and their momentum in the WWE.
