Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders have to be the dumbest team in all of football.

Let me get this straight—They are going to sign a second string lineman who tore his ACL a year ago to a $50M dollar deal, and then go out and get a good corner in Deangelo Hall for $70M??

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING AL Davis?

This is absolutely ridiculous and careless. For a team that needs so much, you are willing to blow all this money on two players who may not even have an impact on your team.

What you need to do is have a good NFL draft, get a couple of kids you can pay a small salary to the first couple of years and spend some money on some decent guys in the free agency, you don't go for the home run with one pick!

Being a Saints fan i have seen this time and time again in my past. Ricky Williams the most recent example. Waste your entire draft and all your money on one guy to solve a major problem. What happened with that? Help me out people.

Oh yeah! he busted—The Oakland Raiders are sure to be just as bad as they have been in the past few years, until an owner with some sense can command this team.

  1. rediculous ????

  2. Why can't anyone on the internet spell ridiculous?

  3. So, they're dumb because they're spending too much money? Except every year the cap gets bigger, and deals that seemed huge a couple years ago seem small. Risky, sure. Can't call it dumb until the Raiders are stuck in cap hell in a few years with nothing to show for it, and there's nothing to prove that will happen.

If the cap disaster never happens, they won't seem so foolish. But, you gotta figure Al is making one last push - what does he care if the Raiders are in cap hell after he's dead and gone?

  4. kiss my s/b a$$.

  5. there will be no cap in 2 years

  6. Dumbest team in the NFL? Hardly. Davis, though he may be off his rocker a bit as of late, as long been known to be a maverick in this league and team after team has followed suit. Now he is pushing the limits once again, and the hate pours in. Wait to see how this turns out before you berate a top notch owner- one that has been around since the beginning of the league and continues to create legacies other teams can only dream about.

Rather than bashing on the Raiders, ask yourself why the Saints are following suit of the 2003 and 2004 Raiders; both teams were outstanding one year and were close to horrible the next.

  7. A Saint's fan telling the Raiders how it should be done. Go look at your trophy case, then look at ours and get back to us.

I love it when a fan base that wore paper bags on their heads and have never been to a Super Bowl are suddenly experts on how it's done.

    1. And isn't it funny how a fan from a team that hasn't had a winning record since they lost the super bowl is criticizing a team on the upswing...

  8. Seriously, until you can spell and your team has sniffed the Lombardi Trophy you should keep your thoughts to yourself.

  9. Ha... Ok guys wow.. First off it's easy to make a typo on the computer.. Sorry about that.. And let's me honest, we are all entitled to our own opinions right? I just think that Al could have spread out all that money over a few other players. The Raiders strong point over the past couple of years has been their Defense. Let's face it their defense HAD to be good in order to compensate for the terrible offense. So why not go out and get some guys to help J.R?

Being a Saints fan, i never said they had a good history. Every team has done something that labels them as questionable. The Jets are known for their draft mishaps. Saints known for their terrible teams over a few decades. The falcons will have to live with paying their QB a 100+M dollar contract and he not end up working out...

I just felt like picking on the Raiders after reading some articles on here... Sorry guys... No harm intended..

  10. Your an idiot Jordan.......the season hasn't started yet, nobody knows if these were good or bad signings until after the season, don't worry your not the biggest idiot though the biggest idiot is the guy who let you post this on the internet. For a title like that you only had two points to why their the dumbest and they both had to do with money.....wake up moron it's Oakland who wants to go to Oakland of course they have to overpay to get players here.

  11. The Raiders are going to be just as bad as they have been? The Raiders will start the season with two AllPro cornerbacks, a good safety(Wilson), an extremely talented quarterback(Jamarcus Russell), a great running back(Michael Bush), and the #4 pick in the draft(McFadden, Gholston, Jake Long, etc..). They will be a much better team next year.

    1. I couldn't agree more Kirk! We had a solid foundation last season, just the inability to finish. We have changed up the roster and gotten rid of one of our biggest problems (Jerry Porter) and we will have a fresh, young look; a team that isn't used to losing.

  12. Holy crap...what drivel!

I have never seen a more poorly written article with no substance. I would actually respect this if it did not sound like some of the hog wash you can read off of message boards. Keep your day job boy...

  13. Tell that to the browns. Or did you miss the huge impact that all of their big money free agents had on the surprise resurgence of the season?

Nobody likes to talk about it because, for some reason, the more often you say things like 'build through the draft' the better you feel about yourself as a sportswriter. But in reality good teams build through a combination of good drafting and good offseason acquisitions.

All this money will max the Raiders against the cap. From a competitive standpoint (as opposed to a business one), going into the season with maximized potential is a good idea.

Finally, the Edwards deal is not nearly a $50M deal, unless the raiders choose to excercise all of the options. That will only happen if he plays at a $50M level.

  14. Ha... Ok i'll remember this and we will see if the Raiders are anything good.. Good luck Raiders fan's... you'll need it!

  15. It's not secret the Raiders have been the the bottom of the barrel team in recent years. WITH THAT SAID. For the Raiders to get decent to good players to play on this team, WE HAVE TO shell out big bucks. Picture this. Asante Samuel. Gets the same exact offer from the Raiders and say... The Colts. YOU REALLY THINK he will ink wit the Raiders??? Hell to the no. WHY? Because the Colts obviously appear to be a functional, stable franchise that happens to be on the winning side as of right now. MONEY talks bro. Not to mention, EVERY year we have players that restructure their contracts to allow players to come to the Raiders. EVEN Russell restructured his contract. 70 million, 24 in gauranteed money, u really think Hall will see the full value of that contract??? You think Tommy Kelly will see all that money? Or how bout Walker??? UNTIL the Raiders turn this franchise in a 180 circle. It's going to cost top dollar for us to bring legit players here. Period. Us Raider fans are atleast thankful that Davis is not a cheap a$$. BTW. Do you really think a unproven rookie (On the NFL level) is really worth 50-60 million???????? Some HAPPEN to pan out while others turn into busts. Why not write an article about the top 5 rookie contracts rather than trying to bash a team in the Raiders to try to fit in to the idiots over at ESPN and NFL Access

  16. I think the Raiders have brought in some good players, and on paper this is really interesting...I think there's a 50/50 chance it'll work...all the Raider fans are excited about JR but you have to remember he is no where near a sure thing.

If JR plays well, and the free agents turn out to play well and the team plays well together then the Raiders will turn it around...the thing is there's a lot more risk by building through almost soley through free agency and high picks.

The way I look at it you need to balance some risk taking along with smart calculated salary cap management and drafting...look at how the Packers rebuilt (asides from Woodson and Pickett it was through the Draft) and look at the Pats long reign of dominance (they're very smart about personel decisions)

    1. The basis of your arguments, Devlan, make absolutely no sense. Are you saying that picking up free agents and breeding new players through the NFL DRAFT is no way to help your team? Or are you saying that hiring new coaches with new positive attitudes with a system that shows promise of working....is the wrong move? What is it that you expect Davis n Company to do, sit around till his death with the same team same coaches which arent doing their part. Its got to kill the NFL league and fans outside the Nation to see my goodness the Oakland Raiders, who were in the superbowl just 5 years ago....might actually be a threat and who knows a contender. Yes so Come on now DevMan, be reasonable. Have some faith little man. Believe in the Greatness which is near for the Oakland Raiders. 2010 will be our year.

    2. Well I made a typo, but my argument DOES make sense. Look at the Redskins of a few years ago if you want a good example of a team that built through free agency and flopped...I was expressing my opinion that caution needs to be taken when building through free agency and placing all your hopes on one guy...and what I was saying was that that you DO need to build through free agency and non costly free agents.

Observe my third paragraph..."you need to balance some risk taking along with smart calculated slalary cap management and drafting"...I WAS saying you need to build through the draft.

Also don't call me little man, or DevMan unless you know me...and be more careful before you say that someone's argument doesn't make sense when you can barely produce an articulate response. I don't mind being disagreed with, just having my intelligence insulted.

  17. I'm a Raider fan, but, I have to say that you people are going way too deep into this. Does anyone on this forum have ANY say so in the day to day operations of the team? Do you think getting upset and calling one another names will get you a direct line to the front office? Seriously, I'm a fan and have been for years but that just it...I'm a FAN. Realize that any decision, good or bad, has no impact on my life. If the Radiers when the Superbowl, I don't get anything for it except a reason to spend more of my money for stuff with Radiers printed on it. If they loose, no one threatens to fire me for something that happens during the season.

I do have my own opinion about the article, but, I'll opt to keep it to myself because this is just too much. If anyone here knows what's going to happen when this season is underway, you need to get a new job.... I hear Ms. Cleo could use a little help.

    1. What you fail to notice is that we are passionate about our football team. That is it. We know full well that what happens to the Raiders generally will not effect our lives other than our moods. But then again, why not get involved in great only discussions that allow you to get excited, and thus happier? We ride the turbulent waves that are the Raiders decisions because we LIKE being there for the highest of highs, and we know that you can only get there by roughing the low points.

If you look all over this board, you will see that what sets Raiders fans apart is our undying loyalty and enthusiasm about our team. This is why we are THE Nation.

  18. So, maybe next time I'll use a spell checker.... I see the Raider faithful here are also professional editors.

  19. Raider Nation ignore the haters. Just be happy that your team has an owner that is willing to spend the money in the hope of improving. As for the Saints we will see you in New Orleans please come up and say Hi. Listen to The Raidercast thursday nights at 8PST on www.theraidercast.com.

  20. Besides playing Miami(1-15), who the Raiders beat 35-17, KC(4-12) who they beat in there last game and should have swept. All there games were against teams in the playoff hunt last year.

7 of there games were against teams with at least 10 wins. They Almost beat S.D. and Indy and won two of there last three divisional games.

So lets recap! Last year the Raiders drafted 11 player (most in the NFL)! Hired the Youngest head coach in the N.F.L. and completly revamped staff and started over. While having to play what was called by ESPN the hardest schedule in football.

Now the Raiders have focused on bringing in veteren free agents that can lift this very young team to the next level.

Will the Raiders make the playoffs? Will they finish 4-12 again? That is yet to be seen.
Oakland Raiders, dumbest team in the NFLl? Maybe.

    What about.
Oakland Raiders, hungriest team in the NFL.

  21. Wonder if there's a rejection point for articles on the Bleacher report....because I don't know how this one made it to the light of day.
Trying to call the Raiders the dumbest team in the NFL, shows a lot of narrow vision. We could talk about all the years, the saints failed to make the playoffs. We could talk about the Ricky Williams debacle. or the Bobby Herbert fiasco. Heck, we could ask them how they fell apart, after coming a game short of the Super Bowl.
Or better, why they never got in.
You could insult other clubs, like the Dolphins, who think having Parcells will turn around a 1-15 team, with no real QB to speak of. You could look in wonder, at Denver, for firing the wrong team head responsible, like the head coach, instead of the GM.
Or why the Cowboys haven't put a no Jessica Simpson curfew around Tony Romo, and enforced it vigorously.
If you want to put up a little comment, just state that you hate the Raiders.....but don't pretend to know how to write, when you're showing Raider bias.....against a team with 3 wins in the super bowl.

  22. Lets be serious, we will not win the AFC West. If you love football as you say then you know currently the Chargers have the best roster in our division and they deserve our respect. I think we will show a lot of improvement, but to expect the Raiders to make the playoff is a real reach. I hope they make the playoff, but I will be happy if they show an improved attitude and improvement in their play. I agree with those who said bring in free agents help the team, but we know its not cheap. However, paying 30 million bucks for a rookie is not a smart investment either, but you have no choice. We traded our second round pick for Hall because we know Hall can play NFL football, but we don't know if the second round pick we traded away will even make a team. We cut a third round pick last year. I feel we still need to fix our offensive line, but maybe I'm wrong. We are going to be a little like the Oakland "A"s with a lot of young players. I think the team will be exciting to watch. No player will pull up on a pass route, no one is going to stand there and look at a live ball in front of them on the ground. and no one is going to be walking around the practice field wearing a T-Shirt giving everyone the middle finger. I hope the coaching incident is fixed between Al and Kiffin so Kiffin can continue bring discipline to the team. I am really looking forward to this season. In the first game against the Broncos we will see how our offensive line and run stopping ability on defense has improved, or hasn't. My money is ready for my season tickets...I'm in>>>>>

  23. With all due respect, my Lions are the dumbest franchise in football. I trust I don't have to enumerate my many supporting arguments. As for the Raiders? Well, they certainly haven't been the marquee front office over the last few years, but I do think they have some talent. Wouldn't mind seeing them win again.
