Robert Griffin III Receives Gift from Adidas Just Days Before 23rd Birthday
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will be 23 years old on Tuesday, February 12th, and one has to ask: what do you get the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year? Well it may not be a birthday gift—but I like the way one of the companies he endorses thinks with their gift box.
ADIDAS, one of several fortunate companies with RG3 as a spokesperson, sent him a box and Griffin promptly displayed pictures on his Facebook page. It was not revealed who else received a similar gift from the athletic-wear company, but Griffin III did not hesitate to let his fans know.
With the motto "All In For Week 1" across the outside of the box, Griffin III seemed delighted to receive the gift and quickly posted the picture, accompanied by the comment, "Boy oh Boy," while also uploading a second picture of the contents.
It was RG3's first pictures posted on his site since November 29th, and his excitement is contagious. It further adds to my own enthusiasm for his successful rehabilitation of his right knee and return to the starting quarterback position in due time for the 2013 season.
Then I had to remind myself of something—RG3 is turning 23 years old this week. Twenty-three!
In 2012 alone, Griffin III was a seven-time NFL Rookie of the Week, two-time NFC Offensive Player of the Week and two-time NFC Rookie of the Month. Postseason awards included a Pro Bowl selection and Sporting News and Pro Football Writers Rookie of the Year.
Griffin enters the second of a four-year, $21 million contract this 2013 season.
He remains optimistic about his recovery from knee surgery and regularly updates his status online. On Sunday, Feb. 10, he posted the following inspirational message on his official Facebook page:
"This is the day The Lord our God has made and he made every single other one too. Always gotta remember that."
Fans of the Redskins—and specifically RG3, who nearly has 800,000 followers on Twitter—agree with the sentiment expressed by ADIDAS and hope the knee injury and rehab goes well so he will be "All In For Week 1."
Happy Birthday RG3.
