South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is all for his assistant coaches advancing their careers, but if they interview for a “lateral” coaching position they may not like what happens next.

“We sort of have a policy, don’t go interview unless it’s an advancement,” Spurrier said last week. “If a guy is interviewing for a lateral job when he gets back home he may not have one. Don’t be out interviewing for lateral jobs. Now advancing, I’m all for advancement.”
