A record crowd of 1,200 season-ticket holders turned out for the Toronto Blue Jays’ “state of the franchise” event Tuesday night, and discouraging words were seldom heard. After all, a winter renovation produced a team favoured by oddsmakers to win the World Series, and ticket sales have been brisk.

But during the question-and-answer session at the Rogers Centre, one fan cast a dissenting vote for an Alex Anthopoulos acquisition. Why would the general manager hire Melky Cabrera, who served a 50-game suspension last season after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels?
