Opening Day didn't turn out so great.
At Citizens Bank Park, all fans were anticipated for the World Series Champions to do what they do: win. But the first game of the season turned into a loss to the Braves by a score of 4-1.
Probably the starting of the game was the best part. And also the Phillies scoring. The team, at the starting of the game, were honoring the 2008 Phillies, who won the World Series (duh). Charlie Manuel was holding up the red flag. Miss America sang the national anthem. It was all good at the start.
But after that, things went worse.
While Brett Myers made three big mistakes of the game, Derek Lowe looked fine and made Myers look like some kid who can't play baseball. Oh man, it was so opposite. Even though the fans were disappointed, the players had something to say, too.
"Oh my goodness," Jimmy Rollins said. "I am heartbroken that we lost a game."
But that wasn't over. Jimmy Rollins went on after a pause.
"As long as we win the next two," Rollins said. "Especially Wednesday. That's the one we definitely need to win, no doubt about that. [World Series championship] ring day."
Shane Victorino went alongside with Rollins. See, we can all get along.
"We've been here," he said. "It's Game One. Geez, we've got 161 left." That is true. And when he means by "We've been here," you know he is talking about that the fact the Phillies haven't won a season opener since 2005.
Brett Myers started his third season opener, but he shouldn't of have. It's not because he played poorly, it's just that Cole Hamels should've played but couldn't. Hamels couldn't because he missed last month because of his elbow.
After Myers made the first two batter out of here, the one against Chipper Jones turned into a single. The next pitch, against Brian McCann, turned into a home run to make it 2-0.
After that, Myers got worse.
He gave up two more home runs. One to Jeff Francoeur, which went to the left. Then one to Jordan Schafer which went into the center. What a day! Fans started to boo after the home run by Schafer. Why wouldn't they? It was 4-0.
"It's Philly, man," he said. "I'm used to it."
Of course, Myers.
Even though Myers only allowed four hits in just four innings, it wouldn't matter because he gave up so many home runs towards superstars.
While Myers struggled, Lowe was acting like it was just some game of the catch, in which he just throws to the catcher for a strike-out. He only allowed two hits in eight innings. And the eight innings were also scoreless. He also struck out four.
He was just playing like an all-star. He pitched amazingly. Reporters asked the players on Lowe's performance.
