Triple H: How Much Longer Will He Be an Active Wrestler?

Triple H’s days as an active wrestler are limited to pay-per-view events, specifically WrestleMania and SummerSlam.

Triple H seems to be on the road to another matchup with Brock Lesnar. After Lesnar attacked Triple H’s father-in-law, Mr. McMahon, it’s only a matter of time until Triple H seeks revenge. While Triple H is one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time (regardless of what Bret Hart says), he was not in the best shape in his SummerSlam match. Since he is not a full-time performer, Triple H doesn’t spend as much time in the gym as he does in the office.

Speaking of office, Triple H’s backstage role has a huge impact on his active wrestling schedule and the future of his career.

Since he married Vince’s daughter, Stephanie, Triple H is destined to have more and more power in WWE moving forward. He has already shown the power he has through revamping NXT and working on the tag team division.

So how does his office job affect how long Triple H will be an active wrestler?

The nice thing is that since he does have some control over WWE, he can return to the ring whenever he wants. Chances are Triple H will continue to wrestle for a while, but with a schedule similar to that of The Undertaker, The Rock and Brock Lesnar.

When Mr. McMahon was the top heel in the WWE during the Attitude Era, he occasionally got in the ring with the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan and others. Triple H should have a similar role moving forward.

Mr. McMahon will likely stay involved with WWE on and off camera for the foreseeable future. However, at some point, he will stop. He will actually retire.

Triple H would make a great authority figure who could occasionally get in the ring with the top face or heel of the company. We saw a glimpse of the future when Triple H was the COO on WWE TV. Unfortunately, the storyline involving Superstars and other employees failing to believe in Triple H was done poorly. The story just didn’t go anywhere.

The great thing about having Triple H in that type of role, over Mr. McMahon, is that Triple H has such an established career.  Future Superstars could claim that Triple H’s time is over, only to have the Cerebral Assassin return to action. Triple H could claim that he made them Superstars. Especially if they came from NXT.

Triple H may never return as a full-time wrestler, but he will always be active in that part-time role. He has already begun this part of his career since taking over more control backstage. As a member of the McMahon family now, Triple H may pull a Vince and wrestle into a much later age. Triple H ended an era with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 28, but he began a new one at the same time. Triple H will always be an active member of WWE.
