Two decades ago, Texas A&M dubbed itself Linebacker U of the South, based on touted prospects angling to play that glorified position for the Aggies. A&M had produced one standout after another at linebacker and on its defense as a whole in the late 1980s and early 1990s, while its offense had struggled to simply keep pace.
