Robert Griffin III has been kept under wraps ever since undergoing major knee surgery in early January, but the Washington Redskins quarterback was forced to make an appearance in New Orleans this past week in order to accept his Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

And the early indications were that Griffin is on the right track. He walked the red carpet and the stage without any obvious issues, and he told the media on hand that his recovery is ahead of schedule right now.

From CSN Washington's Tarik El-Bashir:

"It's feeling good," Griffin said in his first public comments since the surgery to repair the ACL and LCL in his right knee last month. "I went through the toughest part already. So now it's about being smart. Not pushing it too much. That's what the doctors are there for, to keep me from doing too much."

He also said he's doesn't require crutches anymore and that there was "no doubt" he'd be ready for the early-September season opener

A lot can change between now and then, but RG3's recovery appears to be off to a very solid start.
