FC Barcelona: 3 Teams That Could Beat Them in Europe and Why

0 of 3

Barcelona has enjoyed a terrific season thus far, and it could all be capped off by lifting the Champions League trophy in May. But winning the coveted European title will not be easy.

Though every club deserves praise for making it this far in the competition, Barcelona continues to look like the favorites to win the competition. However, there are a few teams that have the right components to eliminate the Catalan club.

While on paper Barcelona may look nearly unstoppable, there are current styles and techniques that really trouble the La Liga leader. And as hard as it may be for Cules to hear, those same techniques are present in the Champions League.

In this article we will take a look at three teams that could beat Barcelona in the Champions League and why those clubs can do so.

    Shall we begin?

Juventus has been a nearly unstoppable force in Italian football for some time now. Though it looks unlikely that the Serie A leader can win the Champions League, the Old Lady could at least eliminate Barcelona.

Juventus has a very smart squad led by the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon. The sheer experience and expertise of the Italian club can cause problems for Barcelona.

There may not be a better club in world football at executing a game plan and preparation that Juventus. The club would certainly enter a match against Barcelona with a very strong plan that many would expect to stifle the Barcelona style.

But Juventus is not only a strong team full of brilliant players. The Old Lady is also one of the strongest defensive sides in the world.

Most clubs find it very difficult to find easy shots against Juventus, and it is a rare occasion when the Italian side gives up multiple goals. For Barcelona this could be a real problem, as goalscoring seems to come and go.

Advancement would likely ride on the shoulder of Lionel Messi, but Juventus would likely have a plan to stop the Argentine as well.

It would be most expected for Barcelona to beat Juventus, but if the two met, fans should not be surprised if the Italian side walks away victoriously.

Borussia Dortmund

German side Borussia Dortmund has been one of the most exciting clubs to watch in Europe this season. Die Borussen has finally arrived on the European stage and would be a tough matchup for Barcelona.

Dortmund made a name for themselves by advancing at the top of the “group of death” while also beating Real Madrid in the process. Though very young, they have proven that they are not a joke and are ready to fight for the trophy.

The Germans are a very well-organized side led by their manager Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp has had his side prepared in every encounter in the European competition and is likely to have a very well-designed approach to dealing with the Catalan club.

Dortmund can play a very physical game defensively, but are also one of the best counter-attacking clubs in the world. Both of these things cause problems for Barcelona and could lead to possible elimination.

The Germans also boast a very strong defense led by Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic. The pure strength of the back line could stifle most attacks that Barcelona creates against the Germans as well as make things very difficult for Lionel Messi.

But it could be the counter led by Marco Reus that could bring the most damage for Barcelona. The German attacker is very quick and calm in attack, just the type of player that could do Barcelona in.

Bayern Munich

If there is any club that stands the best chance of taking down Barcelona, it would be Bayern Munich. The Germans are arguably the best team in the world, and a meeting between the two would be worthy of a final.

Bayern Munich has a solid squad all around and just the right pieces for taking down the Catalans.

The Bavarians boast very experienced players such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm. The leadership of the established stars would push the entire team to their best against Barcelona, which could likely send the Catalans home.

Bayern Munich has also been in two of the last three Champions League finals. It is clear that the Bavarians know how to play in Europe and are prepared to face any club in their way.

However, losing two finals in three years will also give Bayern Munich a very dangerous hunger against Barcelona. It is clear that the Germans are desperate to lift the trophy as they have seemingly rolled over all competition this season.

Simply put, Bayern Munich is the one club that could, along with Barcelona, claim to be the best in the world. When two giants face off, anything can happen.

Bayern Munich has the squad, experience and overall desire needed to take down the likes of Barcelona. In fact, the German outfit may be the favorite to win the entire competition.
