Between two excellent offenses, Super Bowl XLVII saw a total of 65 points scored. The Ravens won 34-31 in a game that was truly as close as the score suggests. We've been spoiled as football fans with excellent Super Bowls the past several years, but this one's bountiful offense makes it a classic among all those games.

The Ravens scored 21 points in the first half alone—just three points off their season average for an entire game. Their quick kick return touchdown put them above their season average, but then the 49ers' offense began to take over.

Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to 17 unanswered points, providing a massive influx of offense that was missing in the first half. His rocket arm and blazing speed keyed the 49ers in the second half as he picked apart the Ravens' secondary with ease.

The fourth quarter saw the Ravens begin to regain their offensive composure. They took five minutes off the clock on a field-goal drive to start the quarter and then saw the 49ers score a quick touchdown. Again, the Ravens were able to put together a five-minute drive to score a field goal.

Though the game was dominated by the offenses, it was the Ravens' defense that would need to make the key stop. They bent badly, to the point that the 49ers got to the Baltimore five-yard line. The Ravens forced them into a make-or-break fourth down, and in perhaps the only important battle won by a defense in this game, the Ravens stopped the 49ers and took possession.

The two teams combined for a whopping 835 yards and 65 points. Both averaged well over five yards per play on offense, making big plays left and right. The offensive outburst alone would have made this a great game.

The fact that it came down to the last drive, though, makes this game a true classic. For the final quarter, the game seemed like it could go either way. The close, high score is truly indicative of how great this game really was.
