Deron Williams' frustrating 2012-13 season may have just gotten a whole lot worse. According to Beyond the Buzzer's Twitter feed, the Brooklyn Nets' star point guard left their game Friday night against the Chicago Bulls after stepping on Nate Robinson's foot and turning his ankle:

Williams’ injury, occurred late in the first half with the Nets down 42-39 to their Eastern Conference rival. After taking a hook shot in the lane, Williams was backing up to get back on defense, but unwittingly stepped on Robinson’s foot.
He was taken back to the locker room by trainers and it’s unknown whether he will return to action on Friday. If Williams’ night is over, he will have finished with seven points on 3-of-7 shooting and two assists, as Brooklyn’s offense struggled against a stalwart Chicago defense.
Don’t look the Nets’ struggles to stop anytime soon if Williams is off the floor for an extended period of time.
Though Brooklyn went on a torrid run initially after P.J. Carlesimo took over for the fired Avery Johnson, it has descended back to earth of late. The Nets have lost three of their last four games heading into Friday night, with all defeats coming against teams currently in the playoffs.
Part of that has been due to the continued struggles of Williams, who is arguably having his worst season since he was a rookie. Williams was averaging 17.0 points, 7.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game coming into Friday’s clash with the Bulls, which aren’t bad numbers in and of themselves. But Williams’ counting stats are far below what the Nets were expecting when they signed him to a max contract last summer.
The 28-year-old has particularly struggled with his shot. His field goal percentage (41.7) is the second-lowest of his career, and Williams has been noticeably unable to get to the rim the way he once did.
While the severity of his injury is currently unknown, an ankle injury couldn't come at a worse possible time.
