What's Russell Westbrook's Mystery Pouting All About?

Maxwell OgdenCorrespondent IIIJanuary 31, 2013

Russell Westbrook was so mad he screamed at assistant coach Mo Cheeks, flipped over a bag and walked to the locker room mid-game.

No one seemed to know what was plaguing Mr. Westbrook. That didn't stop the Twittersphere from offering their two cents on the matter.

Brainstorming is the key:

Found out about Jim and Pam. RT @2rollz: What happened with Westbrook?

Fans of The Office will like that one.

Other Twitter users commented on the situation, thus speculating as to What's Eating Gilbert Grape? As one could only expect, Not Bill Walton fought for Tweet of the Night honors.

I do not condone this comparison.

I haven't seen Russell Westbrook this angry since he found out that Master Splinter was kidnapped by Shredder in the original TMNT movie.

On a more serious note, Royce Young of CBS Sports reports that Westbrook was involved in a verbal sparring bout with teammate Thabo Sefolosha. Kevin Durant played the role of peacemaker.

Russ got ticked at Thabo when he was called for a 5-second backdown violation. He wanted Thabo to cut and went in on him hard about it.

With a player as passionate as Westbrook, these things are bound to happen.

For those concerned that this will be the downfall of the Oklahoma City Thunder, don't jump the gun. OKC dominated Memphis, winning 106-89 and boosting its record to 35-11.

As for Westbrook, he finished with 21 points (on 9-of-17 shooting), nine rebounds, six assists and a steal. Westbrook also posted a plus-minus of positive-20. Production is a nice way to complement passion.

On a side note, Durant was hit with his eighth technical foul of the 2012-13 NBA regular season. He had received just 11 during the first five years of his career.

A weird evening in Oklahoma City.
