Who will face CM Punk at WrestleMania 29? (photo credit: syllabification2.rssing.com)

With the news that The Undertaker may not be available for WrestleMania 29, CM Punk’s opponent for the show became uncertain.

If The Undertaker is in fact unable to work WrestleMania 29, there are not many options for CM Punk.

He could be inserted into the WWE title match with John Cena and The Rock, or have a dream match with a certain beer drinking SOB from the Attitude Era.

Let’s examine four possible opponents or situations for CM Punk at WrestleMania 29.

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Could the dream match of Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. CM Punk occur this year at WrestleMania 29?

While Austin and Punk have teased the match during their interview regarding WWE ’13, Austin hasn’t been seen on WWE TV in a long time.

A match of this level would deserve plenty more buildup. Maybe not to the degree John Cena and The Rock did for their once in a lifetime match, but more than just a month.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. CM Punk is a match every fan, young and old, wants to see. It is a match WWE fans need to see. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that it will happen at WrestleMania 29.

Mr. McMahon

CM Punk has been demanding respect since his pipebomb promo in June 2011, which has been aimed mainly at the WWE product. Therefore, it would only make sense for Mr. McMahon to be a possible opponent for Punk at WrestleMania 29.

Many top Superstars have had a match with the chairman, including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and Bret Hart. CM Punk should be the next Superstar to face McMahon in a WrestleMania showdown.

McMahon and Punk had a brief match on an episode of Raw, but WrestleMania is much more fitting for the top heel of 2012 and Mr. McMahon.

Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar and CM Punk could have a future match together, but it may or may not happen at WrestleMania 29.

Brock Lesnar made his long-awaited return to WWE TV on Monday at the conclusion of Raw. His appearance came just before Paul Heyman was about to get fired. It would seem Heyman’s client is back, but he was just managing CM Punk.

Will Heyman stick with Lesnar only? Punk and Lesnar?

It will be quite interesting to see the dynamic of the trio of Heyman, Punk and Lesnar. It may very well lead to a Punk face turn, believe it or not.

Punk doesn’t need Heyman. Punk is phenomenal on the mic, but Lesnar needs Heyman.

Brock Lesnar seems to be on the verge of another match with Triple H, meaning a match between Lesnar and Punk may have to wait.

If it doesn’t happen at WrestleMania 29, don’t be surprised if Heyman’s two good friends headline SummerSlam 2013.

Triple Threat Match for WWE Title

The most realistic situation would see CM Punk challenging for the WWE title in a triple threat match against both The Rock and John Cena at WrestleMania 29.

CM Punk will most likely lose his rematch against The Rock at Elimination Chamber, but not without controversy.

Chances are Paul Heyman, The Shield and or Brad Maddox will play a part in CM Punk losing to The Rock at Elimination Chamber.

CM Punk will claim he still deserves a rematch for the WWE title and will get one along with Royal Rumble John Cena at WrestleMania 29.

Instead of seeing another Rock vs. Cena match, fans will get the top three names all vying for the WWE title.

Conclusion

CM Punk just lost the WWE title after a record-long reign that ended at the hands of The Rock. Punk deserves the opportunity to headline the biggest show of the year.

His WWE title match last year was overshadowed by both John Cena vs. The Rock and Triple H vs. The Undertaker.

It seemed as though the original plan was for CM Punk to challenge The Undertaker’s streak, but his health and status is in question.

With or without The Undertaker, CM Punk should be in the main event with John Cena and The Rock at WrestleMania. They are the three top names in WWE and inserting Punk would make the match less predictable.

There are other options such as Mr. McMahon, Stone Cold Steve Austin or Brock Lesnar, but a triple threat WWE title match is the most likely scenario.

Sincerely,

Seth
