Volkswagen Super Bowl Commercial: Ad Featuring Jimmy Cliff Hits the Right Notes

What do you get when you combine a reggae musician with a bunch of viral video stars in a sunny meadow?

Perhaps the most feel-good ad you will see this Super Bowl Sunday.

In a world that can test your limits sometimes, Volkswagen's "Sunny Side" YouTube teaser makes it alright, even if it's for a brief one minute, 40 seconds.

The ad begins with various people losing their minds, who have since gone on to become famous (or infamous) viral video stars. Ranging from a woman who can't imagine a world without cats to a fed-up politician, to a furious baseball manager to a frustrated golfer, each individual shows just how crazy this life can be.

Then, all of these people, including many other YouTube stars, collect in a sunny meadow as Jimmy Cliff sings, "C'Mon Get Happy" with a cheery smile on his face.

With shoutouts to "irate baseball manager" and "weatherman who was made to stand out in a hurricane," as well as "irritated llama" (my personal favorite), Cliff makes everything okay as everyone dances together and the worries and troubles of the world lift off their shoulders.

While this ad has little to do with a car, it almost makes me want to go out and buy a Volkswagen for some unexplainable reason.

Maybe it's the good vibes it sends out to the world. Maybe it's Cliff's happy voice. Or maybe it's just the fact that it's hard to imagine a car company that produces an ad like this being all that bad.

Whether this commercial becomes effective for Volkswagen financially or not, it's safe to say it will probably create one of the best impressions on Super Bowl Sunday.

Because when life is getting you down and you have reached your boiling point, just remember: "C'mon Get Happy."
