If I see one more national news story about how Michigan State's success is just what a down-in-the dumps state like Michigan needs, the television is going out the window.
I suppose every final four needs its feelgood story, I'm just not on board with this one.
It may have been a poor season for Michigan football, but I don't seem to remember the entire state settling their differences and coming together to root for the Wolverines on the national stage.
Actually, if I remember correctly, many (not all) State fans seemed to revel in the glory of Michigan falling short in another Rose Bowl.
Now it feels like us Michigan fans are being pulled on to the MSU basketball bandwagon.
What's good for one Big Ten team is good for the entire Big Ten?
I don't put much value in that. Michigan and Michigan State are constantly battling for recruiting within the state of Michigan, and the better State does this year, the less significant Michigan's first tournament appearance in 10 years seems to be.
I'm not a Big Ten fan, I'm a Michigan fan. In fact, you could say, I hate 10/11ths of the entire conference!
So, celebrate your win State fans. But do not try to make me feel pouty or immature because I wasn't donning my green afro wig and shouting for Tom Izzo.
It doesn't boil down to whats good for the state, or the conference. It boils down the fact that this state is divided. Green and White, Maize and Blue.
I did not root for Michigan State to win tonight, and I won't root for them on Monday. Does that mean I'm being childish? Absolutely not. It means I don't like Michigan State.
And if you say you cheer for both equally or depending on the season well, that's your problem...pick a side my friend!
